It is the intent that this existing structure will be removed to make way for two new residences. Per Town zoning standards, the subject property is within the PS zone district which allows for a primary – secondary residence to be constructed on the site. The primary residence represents up to 60% of the total gross residential floor area (GRFA) allowable. The secondary residence may build up to 40% of the overall GRFA allowable. Sited adjacent to the Gore Creek on a sloping open meadow lot, the design references a relevant vernacular architecture as well as the European heritage and sensibility. By emphasizing heavy stone, grounded masses, the design provides an expression of permanence suggestive of the traditional European country chateau. A low slope (4:12) sheltering roof provides a counterpoint to the rustic stone and is rendered as a heavily textured and crafted sheltering form with deep rakes and overhangs. Together these two materials stereotomic (stone) and tectonic (wood) are juxtaposed and extended into the interiors to exude a warm palette and a residential character. Natural western red cedar siding rounds out the exterior material palette and is presented as a neutral backdrop to the stone and roof forms and characters. To further create the scale and comforts of home, the massing breaks down into three discrete volumes; the garage, the primary unit and the secondary units. Massing is presented as “low-slung” along Forest Road and grows down the site to the north, opening to views and capturing a desirable northern light. Large expanses of glass allow for sunlit interiors, expansive views, and lead to outdoor terraces, both elements serving to reflect the idiom of outdoor living in the American West. Both residences reinforce their connections to the natural environment through integration of architecture and landscaping: water and fire feature elements extend the living spaces to the exterior. Each residence is provided a unique exterior environment – one to the southeast and a second to the northwest to reinforce the livability of an individual, single family residence. Natural cut stone boulders form the exterior living spaces and are presented as integral and emerging from the site. 4240 Architecture Inc chicago denver 3507 Ringsby Court Suite 117 Denver Colorado 80216 T 303 292 3388 W 4240architecture.com A Sustainability-driven decisions were made at all levels of design and include: radiant flooring, responsibly harvested lumber, and high-performance windows. Exterior materials such as cedar wood siding, copper roofs and trim, and stacked stonework echo the regional aesthetic.
