The primary material used for both our luminaire and pole products is aluminum to resist corrosion and the need for maintenance. Aluminum will not need the periodic refinishing required of steel products that will eventually rust and corrode. All our internal parts and fasteners are made of aluminum or stainless steel. Our reflector enclosures are kept dust free and dry with the use of silicone gaskets to prevent light degradation from contaminants. Light Pollution The Universe has configurations that are designated as full cutoff, which means there is no light emitted above 90 degrees horizontal. This ensures no light is beamed into the sky which contributes to light pollution and wastes energy. IDA Approved™ Dark-Sky Friendly versions of these luminaires are available. Energy Efficiency The Universe is designed to use electrical energy in the most efficient possible way. The reflectors are designed to direct the illumination on the ground with no stray light which translates into wasted energy. The result is more light with less energy consumption. AAL is a registered continuing education provider. Sustainability AAL develops our products with recycling and resource management in mind. We recycle all incoming packaging materials. Our products are shipped in easy to recycle packaging materials. Our state of the art finishing system uses eco friendly cleansing and preparation chemicals that are harmless enough to send to the drain without further processing. Our powder coating process eliminates the release of volatile chemicals into the atmosphere. The horizontal re flector system is available in four light distributions for maximum efficiency and precise placement of the light. The reflector systems meet IES standards for full cutoff optics to address requirements for glare control, light trespass and light pollution. Light trespass is eliminated with the use of an optional factory installed house side shield. IDA approved Full cutoff HID reflectors meet local light control ordinances and dark sky initiatives FOUR LIGHT PATTERNS Full cutoff shield (UCS only) lowers the hood to cover the opal lens, providing IES full cutoff classification. 14ARCHITECTURAL AREA LIGHTING Efficient Illumination UNIVERSE COLLECTION® Universe collection employs the most efficient lamp sources on the market. Highly efficient sources offered in Universe collection include long lasting LED technology as well as induction systems. Universe Small (UCS) and Bollard (UCB) both feature symmetrical LED systems that effectively distribute light in an IES Type 5 distribution pattern. Available in warm white (3500K) or bright white (5100K). UCS LUM ANG PMS UCM-LED, part of Designer SSL Series Universe LED’s exclusive MicroEmitter control and beam angle design limits glare, while still maintaining wide pole spacing. The result is maximum throw with broad, uniform illumination. This unique precision aiming system ensures that even when looking directly at the luminaire, only one-half of the LEDs can be viewed at any given time. This results in 50% less glare when compared to other exposed, uncontrolled LED systems currently on the market. TM Universe Medium (UCM) is part of AAL’s Designer SSL Series and features exclusive MicroEmitter™ technology. The technology is focused in the EmitterDeck, which consists of an array of replaceable MicroEmitter modules that tightly and precisely control each diode. A secondary perimeter reflector contained within the housing redirects any stray light. The result is powerful, low glare, uniform illumination. UCS-LED UNIVERSE LED UNIVERSE SMALL 15 ARCHITECTURAL AREA LIGHTING Induction Lamp UNIVERSE COLLECTION® An induction lamp system is available for the UCM- medium and UCL-large scale fixtures (OAL only) as well as the UCB bollard. The system features long life, excellent color rendering and “instant on” characteristics compared to HID lamps. The electronic generator enhances reliability for consistent light output under variable operating conditions. The life expectancy of the induction lamp system is 100,000 hours (27 years at 10 hours per night). The IL-55 lamp output is 3500 initial lumens, and is comparable to a 50 watt metal halide or HpS lamp system. The IL-85 lamp output is 6000 initial lumens, which is comparable to a 70 watt HID lamp. • Maintenance free operation saves the cost of frequent relamping • Excellent color rendition throughout the life of the lamp • Instant on for security and emergency lighting applications UCM OAL ANG 16 Engineered for perfect installation UNIVERSE COLLECTION® The key to a successful installation is an easy straight forward installation process that ensures consistent, repeatable setups. The Universe Collection® has retained the quick foolproof installation process that makes every installation look perfect. ONE-PIECE, PREWIRED ARMS All arms are unitized, one-piece designs for structural rigidity and easy installation. Just slip the arm over the pole and tighten the set screws. AAL arms are prewired with a quick disconnect for easy attachment to the fixture. The multitap ballast is installed and wired at the factory to speed the installation process. SECURE CONNECTIONS These fixtures have a large cross section requiring a strong connection to avoid loosening connections from wind and vibration. The UCM and UCL feature a three point connection between the arm and fixture head to ensure a secure connection. The connection is sealed with a silicone pad. Just set the arm over the fixture and attach it with the three supplied stainless steel bolts. The small scaled UCS fixtures are factory welded to the arm. 17 ARCHITECTURAL AREA LIGHTING Engineered for easy installation UNIVERSE COLLECTION® AAL arms are designed with a slip over hub that allows proper arm alignment no matter how the pole is orientated when installed. If the poles are not installed precisely, the arms can be swiveled to ensure all the arms, along a street or path, line up visually. The luminous elements shall be cast aluminum with an internal lens that is lightly diffused molded acrylic, sealed to the housing and shade with molded silicone gaskets. The hoods shall be heavy gauge spun aluminum with hemmed edges for added rigidity. All internal and external hardware shall be stainless steel. The bollard hood and housing shall be cast aluminum with a glass refractor lens, sealed with a silicone gasket. Opal acrylic lens (OAL)– The UCS shall have a tempered, opal glass lens that unscrews for relamping. FULL CUTOFF The UCS uses a full cutoff shield in place of the luminous element when the FCO option is chosen. The shield lowers the hood to cover the opal lens, providing IES full cutoff classification. The OAH of the UCS fixture with the FCO option is 14.25"/362mm with the bell hood, 14"/356mm with the skirted bell hood, or 13.25"/337mm for others. ELECTRICAL The ballast shall be mounted to a cast plate, prewired with a quick disconnect plug. HID ballasts are high power factor, rated for -30°C starting.
