COMPLIANCE WITH CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS. DATA SHALL INCLUDE THE MANUFACTURER'S

2. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT SUBMITTALS PROCESSED BY THE ENGINEER ARE NOT CHANGE
ORDERS; THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE SUBMITTALS BY THE CONTRACTOR IS TO DEMONSTRATE
TO THE ENGINEER THAT THE CONTRACTOR UNDERSTANDS THE DESIGN CONCEPT; AND THAT
THIS UNDERSTANDING IS DEMONSTRATED BY INDICATING WHICH EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS THE
CONTRACTOR INTENDS TO FURNISH AND INSTALL AND THE FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION
METHODS THE CONTRACTOR INTENDS TO USE. THE CONTRACTOR FURTHER AGREES THAT IF
DEVIATIONS, DISCREPANCIES, OR CONFLICTS BETWEEN SUBMITTALS AND CONTRACT
DOCUMENTS ARE DISCOVERED EITHER PRIOR TO OR AFTER SUBMITTALS ARE PROCESSED BY
THE ENGINEER, THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS SHALL CONTROL AND BE FOLLOWED.
3. SHOP DRAWINGS AND MANUFACTURER'S PRODUCT DATA SHALL DESCRIBE MATERIALS, FINISHES,
CONSTRUCTION AND DETAILS OF EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING "UL APPROVAL", WHERE SPECIFIED.
SUBMISSIONS SHALL INDICATE SPECIFIED DETAILS AND SHALL INCLUDE COMPLETE
DIMENSIONAL DATA. COORDINATE SHOP DRAWINGS WITH THE OTHER TRADES BEFORE
SUBMITTING FOR REVIEW. SHOP DRAWINGS SHALL REFLECT ALL VARIATIONS IN THE EQUIPMENT
LAYOUT, ARRANGEMENT, AND INSTALLATION REQUIRED TO ADAPT TO THE JOB CONDITIONS.
1.08 COORDINATION
1. PRIOR TO BID, THE CONTRACTORS SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND IDENTIFY TO THE OWNER'S
REPRESENTATIVE ANY ITEMS THAT MAY AFFECT THEIR BID. PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION,
FABRICATION, REMOVAL, OR RELOCATION OF ANY WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE
ACTUAL CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED AND SHALL FULLY
COORDINATE ALL WORK WITH THE ARCHITECTURAL PLANS, BUILDING STRUCTURE, AND WORK
OF OTHER TRADES. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY EXISTING INVERTS AND ELEVATIONS PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION. WHERE CONFLICTS OCCUR, OR IF CONNECTIONS THERETO CANNOT BE MADE,
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE PRIOR TO
MATERIAL FABRICATION OR INSTALLATION.
2. WHERE THE WORK OF VARIOUS TRADES WILL BE INSTALLED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO ONE
ANOTHER OR WHERE THERE IS EVIDENCE THAT THE WORK OF ONE TRADE WILL INTERFERE WITH
WORK OF OTHER TRADES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSIST IN WORKING OUT SPACE
CONDITIONS TO MAKE A SATISFACTORY ADJUSTMENT. IF THE CONTRACTOR ALLOWS ONE TRADE
TO INSTALL HIS WORK BEFORE COORDINATING WITH WORK OF OTHER TRADES, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE NECESSARY CHANGES TO CORRECT THE CONDITIONS IN SUCH A
MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER, AND BEAR THE COST OF SUCH
CORRECTIONS.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL LOCATE ALL EQUIPMENT WHICH MUST BE SERVICED, OPERATED, OR
MAINTAINED IN A FULLY ACCESSIBLE POSITION. EQUIPMENT SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED
TO, CLEANOUTS, VALVES, TRAPS, MOTORS, CONTROLLERS, DRAIN PANS, ETC. IF REQUIRED FOR
ACCESSIBILITY FURNISH ACCESS DOORS FOR THIS PURPOSE. MINOR DEVIATIONS FROM
DRAWINGS MAY BE MADE TO ALLOW FOR IMPROVED ACCESSIBILITY, AND ANY CHANGE FOR
THAT PURPOSE IS ACCEPTABLE
1.09 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE (O&M)
MANUALS
1. PROVIDE FOUR (4) COPIES OF OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS FOR OWNER'S USE. O&M
MANUALS SHALL BE ARRANGED IN THREE RING BINDERS AND SHALL LIST STEP-BY-STEP
PROCEDURES REQUIRED FOR SYSTEM START-UP, OPERATION, ABNORMAL SHUTDOWN,
EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN, AND NORMAL SHUTDOWN FOR EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. INCLUDE
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FOR EQUIPMENT ITEMS:
A. MANUFACTURER'S NAME, MODEL NUMBER, SERVICE MANUAL, AND PARTS LIST.
B. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT AND BASIC OPERATING FUNCTIONS.
C. COPY OF APPROVED SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTALS; EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND
DRAWINGS.
D. DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION, NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS AND
LIMITATIONS, PERFORMANCE CURVES, ENGINEERING DATA (SPECIFIED CAPACITIES, I.E.,
SUBMITTAL DATA) AND TESTS (INCLUDING ASME VESSEL TEST REPORTS), AND COMPLETE
NOMENCLATURE AND COMMERCIAL NUMBERS OF REPLACEMENT PARTS.
E. MANUFACTURER'S PRINTED OPERATING PROCEDURES TO INCLUDE START-UP, BREAK-IN,
AND ROUTINE AND NORMAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS; REGULATION, CONTROL,
STOPPING, SHUTDOWN, AND EMERGENCY INSTRUCTIONS; AND SUMMER AND WINTER
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.
F. MANUFACTURER'S LIST OF RENEWAL PARTS FOR EACH ITEM, INCLUDING RECOMMENDED
STOCK ITEMS AND RECOMMENDED QUANTITIES. INDICATE WHERE SPARE PARTS CAN BE
ORDERED.
G. CONTROL AND ELECTRICAL INTERLOCK DIAGRAMS, SEQUENCES OF OPERATIONS.
H. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES FOR ROUTINE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND
TROUBLESHOOTING; DISASSEMBLY, REPAIR, AND REASSEMBLY; ALIGNING AND ADJUSTING
INSTRUCTIONS.
I. SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS AND LUBRICATION CHARTS AND SCHEDULES.
J. EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR EQUIPMENT.
2. O&M MANUALS SHALL BE USED AS THE BASIS OF TRAINING OWNER'S OPERATIONS PERSONNEL
AND SHALL BE ON SITE FOR USE DURING THE FINAL INSPECTION. O&M MANUALS SHALL BE
REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER FOR CONTENT AND COMPLETENESS BEFORE
FINAL PAYMENT. THE ENGINEER SHALL RETAIN ONE COPY OF APPROVED MAINTENANCE MANUAL
IN PROJECT FILES. THREE COPIES SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THE OWNER.
2.00 MATERIALS
1. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE STANDARD PRODUCTS OF A MANUFACTURER
REGULARLY ENGAGED IN THE MANUFACTURING OF SUCH PRODUCTS, WHICH ARE OF A SIMILAR
MATERIAL, DESIGN, AND WORKMANSHIP. THE STANDARD PRODUCTS SHALL HAVE BEEN IN
SATISFACTORY COMMERCIAL OR INDUSTRIAL USE FOR TWO (2) YEARS PRIOR TO THE BID
OPENING DATE FOR THIS PROJECT. PRODUCTS SHALL BE SUPPORTED BY A SERVICE
ORGANIZATION. SYSTEM COMPONENTS SHALL BE ENVIRONMENTALLY SUITABLE FOR THE
INDICATED LOCATIONS AND OPERATIONS.
2. EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE NEW, BEST OF THEIR RESPECTIVE KINDS, AND FREE FROM
DEFECTS. WHERE INDICATED, PROVIDE EQUIPMENT WHICH IS LISTED BY UNDERWRITER'S
LABORATORIES, INC., BEARING THE UL LABEL.
3. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT PROVIDED FOR SIMILAR APPLICATIONS SHALL BE OF THE SAME
MANUFACTURER AND SHALL CONFORM TO THE REFERENCED STANDARDS.
2.01 VIBRATION ISOLATION

A. INSTALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS.
B. PROVIDE LEVELING DEVICES AND APPROVED RESILIENT RESTRAINING DEVICES

B. PIPING SYSTEMS: LESS THAN 100 PSIG OPERATING PRESSURE, TEST HYDROSTATICALLY
TO 150 PSIG. OVER 100 PSIG OPERATING PRESSURE, TEST HYDROSTATICALLY TO 1½
TIMES OPERATING PRESSURE BUT NEVER EXCEED TEST PRESSURE AS PER ASME B16.1
BASIS.
C. REPAIR OR REPLACE LEAKS AND DEFECTS AS DIRECTED WITHOUT ADDITIONAL
COST.
10. REMOVAL AND RELOCATION OF EXISTING WORK:
A. DISCONNECT, REMOVE, OR RELOCATE MATERIAL, EQUIPMENT, PLUMBING FIXTURES,
PIPING, AND OTHER WORK NOTED AND REQUIRED BY REMOVAL OR CHANGES IN EXISTING
CONSTRUCTION.
B. WHERE EXISTING UTILITIES, PIPING, CONDUITS, AND/OR DUCTS, WHICH ARE TO REMAIN
PREVENT INSTALLATION OF NEW WORK AS INDICATED, RELOCATE, OR ARRANGE FOR
RELOCATION OF EXISTING PIPES, CONDUITS AND /OR DUCTS AS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE
THE INSTALLATION.
C. PROVIDE NEW MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT, SUPPORTS, CURBS, ISOLATORS, ETC. AS
MIGHT BE REQUIRED FOR RELOCATED EQUIPMENT.
D. PLUG OR CAP ACTIVE PIPING AND DUCTWORK BEHIND OR BELOW FINISHED SURFACES.
E. DO NOT LEAVE LONG DEAD END BRANCHES. CAP OR PLUG AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE
ACTIVE LINE.
F. REMOVE UNUSED OR ABANDONED PIPING, DUCTWORK, AND MATERIAL AND PROPERLY
DISPOSE OF ALL REMOVED FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT AS DIRECTED. PROVIDE THE
OWNER'S AGENT WITH PROPERLY EXECUTED DISPOSAL DOCUMENTATION FOR ITEMS
WHICH REQUIRE ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE.
11. ACCESSIBILITY:
A. INSTALLATIONS SHALL PROVIDE FOR OPERATION, MAINTENANCE, AND REPAIR OF
EQUIPMENT.
B. GROUP CONCEALED MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRING ACCESS WITH EQUIPMENT
FREELY ACCESSIBLE THROUGH ACCESS DOORS.
12. SPARE PARTS: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT SPARE PARTS DATA FOR EACH DIFFERENT ITEM
OF EQUIPMENT SPECIFIED, AFTER APPROVAL OF THE SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTALS, AND NOT
LATER THAN ONE MONTH BEFORE PROJECT COMPLETION. THE DATA SHALL INCLUDE A
COMPLETE LIST OF PARTS AND SUPPLIES, WITH CURRENT UNIT PRICES AND SOURCES OF
SUPPLY, A RECOMMENDED SPARE PARTS LIST FOR ONE (1) YEAR OF OPERATION, AND A LIST OF
THE PARTS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO BE REPLACED ON A ROUTINE BASIS.
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
1. DELIVER PRODUCTS TO THE PROJECT PROPERLY IDENTIFIED WITH NAMES, EQUIPMENT
NUMBERS, MANUFACTURERS, MODEL NUMBERS, TYPES, GRADES, COMPLIANCE LABELS, AND
OTHER INFORMATION NEEDED FOR IDENTIFICATION.
A. HVAC TERMINAL UNITS SHALL BE SHIPPED AS A SINGLE PACKAGE ONLY, AND SHALL BE
STORED AND HANDLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
B. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE SHIPPED IN SECTIONS TO PERMIT PASSAGE THROUGH
AVAILABLE SPACES.
2. NOTIFY THE OWNER'S AGENT AND THE ENGINEER IN WRITING WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS OF AWARD
OF CONTRACT, OF THE PROPOSED DELIVERY SCHEDULE OF ANY EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS
THAT MAY PREVENT THE INSTALLATION FROM BEING COMPLETED BY THE PROJECT COMPLETION
DATE.
3. STORED ITEMS SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM THE WEATHER, HUMIDITY, AND TEMPERATURE
VARIATIONS, DIRT AND DUST, OR OTHER CONTAMINANTS. PROPER PROTECTION AND CARE OF
ALL MATERIAL BEFORE AND DURING INSTALLATION SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S
RESPONSIBILITY. ANY MATERIALS FOUND TO BE DAMAGED SHALL BE REPLACED AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. DURING INSTALLATION, PIPING, DUCTWORK AND SIMILAR OPENINGS
SHALL BE CAPPED TO KEEP OUT DIRT AND OTHER FOREIGN MATTER.
4. DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED MATERIALS, APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT. DAMAGED MATERIALS,
APPARATUS, AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE MARKED AS REJECTED MATERIALS AND PROMPTLY
REMOVED FROM THE SITE.
5. AFTER EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN INSTALLED, COVER WITH A PROTECTIVE MATERIAL AND KEEP
COVERED UNTIL ALL PAINTING AND INSULATING WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED. THE SUBJECT
EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT BE OPERATED WHILE IT HAS A PROTECTIVE COVERING. AT FINAL
INSPECTION, ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE FREE OF STAINS, SCRATCHES AND FOREIGN DEBRIS. ALL
EQUIPMENT FINISHES THAT DO NOT MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE SANDED, PRIMED
AND PAINTED TO MATCH ORIGINAL PAINT FINISH.
1.05 WARRANTY AND SERVICE
1. WARRANTY: SUBMIT A SINGLE WRITTEN GUARANTEE STATING THAT ALL PORTIONS OF THE
WORK ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS. GUARANTEE ALL WORK
AGAINST FAULTY AND IMPROPER MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR
FROM THE DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE BY THE OWNER, EXCEPT THAT WHERE EXTENDED
GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES FOR LONGER TERMS (SUCH AS REFRIGERATION COMPRESSORS,
AND CONTROLS COMPONENTS) ARE SPECIFIED IN THE CONTRACT, OR ARE THE
MANUFACTURER'S STANDARD OPTION, SUCH LONGER WARRANTIES SHALL APPLY.
2. REFER TO GENERAL CONDITIONS AND DIVISION 1, WARRANTIES AND BONDS.
3. WARRANTEE PERIOD SHALL START AFTER FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS BY THE
OWNER OR ARCHITECT.
4. WHERE EXTENDED WARRANTIES ARE CALLED FOR HEREIN, FURNISH THREE COPIES TO BE
INSERTED IN OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS.
5. WARRANTY SERVICE: WARRANTY SERVICE TO CORRECT DEFICIENCIES SHALL BE SUPPLIED AT
NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER NOTIFICATION, CORRECT ANY
DEFICIENCIES WHICH OCCUR DURING THE GUARANTEE PERIOD, ALL TO THE SATISFACTION OF
THE OWNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY SUCH
DEFICIENCIES AND SHALL REPAIR SUCH DAMAGE AND REIMBURSE THE OWNER FOR ALL COSTS
INCURRED.
6. ALL PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND NORMAL SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED BY THE OWNER'S
MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL AFTER FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORK. THIS SHALL NOT ALTER
THE CONTRACTOR'S WARRANTY OF THE WORK IN ANY WAY.
7. RECTIFICATION: AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER, WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER
NOTIFICATION, CORRECT ANY DEFICIENCIES WHICH OCCUR DURING THE GUARANTEE PERIOD,
ALL TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE OWNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY
DAMAGE CAUSED BY SUCH DEFICIENCIES AND REPAIR THEREOF AND REIMBURSE THE OWNER
FOR ALL COSTS INCURRED.
8. QUALITY ASSURANCE:
A. NEW, BEST OF THEIR RESPECTIVE KINDS, FREE FROM DEFECTS, LISTED AND LABELED BY
UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORIES, INC., OR BEARING THEIR LABEL.
B. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OF SIMILAR APPLICATION: SAME MANUFACTURE, EXCEPT AS
NOTED.
C. CONFORM TO REFERENCE STANDARDS.
1.06 INTERPRETATION OF DRAWINGS AND
SPECIFICATIONS
1. IT IS THE INTENT OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS AND THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS TO PROVIDE A
COMPLETE AND WORKABLE FACILITY. BOTH OF THE DRAWINGS AND THE SPECIFICATIONS SHALL
BE CONSIDERED AS SUPPLEMENTAL TO ONE ANOTHER, SO THAT MATERIALS AND LABOR
REQUIRED BY ONE BUT NOT THE OTHER, SHALL BE SUPPLIED AND INSTALLED, AS THOUGH
SPECIFICALLY CALLED FOR BY BOTH. IN ADDITION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL

4. SELECT AND INSTALL EQUIPMENT, WHICH WILL FIT INTO THE SPACE ALLOWED, INCLUDING SPACE

5. BEFORE INSTALLING ANY EQUIPMENT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL NECESSARY PLUMBING,
PIPING, FITTINGS, SUPPORTS, PLENUMS, CASINGS AND DUCTWORK OF THE CORRECT SIZE,
DIMENSIONS, AND SHAPE FOR THE EQUIPMENT ACTUALLY INSTALLED. PLUMBING, PIPING AND
DUCT SIZES INDICATED SHALL BE TAKEN AS A MINIMUM AND SHALL NOT BE REDUCED WITHOUT
APPROVAL FROM THE ENGINEER.
6. CERTAIN MOTOR CONTROL DEVICES TO BE FURNISHED UNDER DIVISION 23 ARE SHOWN ON THE
ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AND SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH AND UNDER THE
REQUIREMENTS OF DIVISION 26, ELECTRICAL. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CAREFULLY REVIEW THE
ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS TO DETERMINE THE COMPLETE EXTENT AND
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS WORK; INCLUDING PROVISION OF MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, AND

7. CERTAIN LOW VOLTAGE (120 VAC) ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO POWER AND

WALLS, ROOF AND FLOORS AND ELSEWHERE AS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE PROPER
PROTECTION OF EACH CONDUIT PASSING THROUGH BUILDING SURFACES. COORDINATE
THIS WORK WITH THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR IN ORDER TO PROPERLY EXPEDITE AND
PERFORM THIS WORK.
M. PASSAGE OF EQUIPMENT: CHECK THE DIMENSIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF EQUIPMENT OF
THIS SECTION TO ENSURE THAT SUCH EQUIPMENT CAN PASS THROUGH THE NECESSARY
AREAS TO REACH ITS ULTIMATE INSTALLED LOCATION. INCLUDE IN BID COSTS FOR ALL
WORK REQUIRED, INCLUDING ANY WORK REQUIRED TO MOVE THE EQUIPMENT THROUGH

P. WARRANTY: SUBMIT A SINGLE GUARANTEE STATING THAT ALL PORTIONS OF THE WORK
ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS. GUARANTEE ALL WORK AGAINST
FAULTY AND IMPROPER MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR FROM
DATE OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE BY OWNER, EXCEPT THAT WHERE GUARANTEES OR
WARRANTIES FOR LONGER TERMS ARE SPECIFIED BY CONTRACT, SUCH LONGER TERM
SHALL APPLY.
Q. RECTIFICATION: AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER, WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER
NOTIFICATION, CORRECT ANY DEFICIENCIES WHICH OCCUR DURING THE GUARANTEE
PERIOD, ALL TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE OWNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE

AND APPROVAL AND INFORMING OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE PRIOR TO
PERFORMING THIS WORK. PRIOR TO CORE DRILLING, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM
X-RAY OF AREA TO BE PENETRATED TO VERIFY PENETRATIONS ARE FREE OF
OBSTRUCTIONS IN SLAB.
B. COORDINATE ALL NEW WORK WITH EXISTING INSTALLATIONS.
C. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT JOB SITE PRIOR TO BID AND VERIFY EXACT LOCATION, SIZE
AND LOADING OF EXISTING PIPING PRIOR TO INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION OF ANY NEW
HVAC HYDRONIC PIPING.
D. DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND INDICATE GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF SYSTEMS AND
WORK. FOLLOW DRAWINGS IN LAYING OUT WORK AND CHECK DRAWINGS OF OTHER
TRADES TO VERIFY SPACE CONDITIONS. MAINTAIN HEADROOM AND SPACE CONDITIONS.
E. ALL WORK IN OTHER SPACES LOCATED BEYOND THE AREA OF WORK SHALL BE

8. MAINTAIN CONTINUOUS OPERATION OF EXISTING FACILITIES AS REQUIRED WITH THE
NECESSARY TEMPORARY CONNECTIONS BETWEEN NEW AND EXISTING WORK. CONNECT NEW
WORK TO EXISTING WORK IN A NEAT, WORKMANLIKE, AND ACCEPTABLE MANNER. RESTORE
EXISTING WORK, WHICH HAS BEEN DISTURBED TO THE ORIGINAL CONDITION, INCLUDING
MAINTENANCE OF WIRING CONTINUITY AS REQUIRED.

1. GENERAL: PROVIDE ALL MATERIALS, INSTALLATION, FIRE CONTAINMENT INSULATION, DUCTS,
DAMPERS, ACCESS DOORS, JOINTS, HANGERS, SUPPORTS, STIFFENERS, SMOKE DAMPERS, FIRE
DAMPERS, AND FIRE RETARDING MATERIALS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF
SMACNA - "HVAC DUCT CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS", LATEST EDITION, (REFERED TO HEREIN AS
THE "DUCT MANUAL") AND ALL AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION (AHJ). ALL SHEET METAL
WORK SHALL HAVE A PRESSURE CLASSIFICATION AS FOLLOWS:
A. SUPPLY DUCTS - 3 INCHES WATER GAUGE.
B. OUTSIDE AIR DUCTS - 2 INCHES WATER GAUGE.
SEAL DUCTWORK SEAMS AND JOINTS "AIR-TIGHT" IN ACCORDANCE WITH SMACNA CLASS "A"
CONSTRUCTION. SEAL AROUND ALL SCREWS.
2. MATERIALS: COLD ROLLED "COMMERCIAL" QUALITY, HOT-DIPPED GALVANIZED STEEL IN
ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM A653.
A. DIMENSIONS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS ARE CLEAR INSIDE DIMENSIONS.
B. FITTINGS: SAME GAUGE AND CONSTRUCTION AS DUCTWORK. RADIUS ELBOWS SHALL HAVE
A CENTERLINE RADIUS NOT LESS THAN 1.5 TIMES THE DUCT WIDTH. SQUARE ELBOWS
SHALL BE FITTED WITH TURNING VANES.
C. DUCT SUPPORTS SHALL BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SMACNA DUCT MANUAL.
D. TRANSVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL BRACING FOR DUCTWORK SHALL BE PROVIDED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE SMACNA DUCT MANUAL.
3. DAMPERS: DAMPERS SHALL BE COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS OF A MANUFACTURER REGULARLY
INVOLVED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF AIR DISTRIBUTION DEVICES. DAMPERS SHALL BE
FABRICATED OF HEAVY GAUGE GALVANIZED STEEL OR ALUMINUM AND SHALL MEET THE
REQUIREMENTS OF THE SMACNA DUCT MANUAL. FURNISH ALL DAMPERS NECESSARY FOR THE
PROPER CONTROL AND BALANCING OF AIR DISTRIBUTION AS FOLLOWS:
A. ALL DUCTS WHICH SPLIT IN TWO OR MORE BRANCHES TO SERVE SUPPLY DIFFUSERS.
B. AT EACH SUPPLY BRANCH DUCT, AT THE BRANCH DUCT CONNECTION.
C. DAMPERS SHALL BE ACCESSIBLE AND ADJUSTABLE.
D. ADDITIONALLY, AS INDICATED ON THE PROJECT DRAWINGS.
4. TURNING VANES: GALVANIZED STEEL, DOUBLE-THICKNESS TYPE WITH 2-INCH INSIDE RADIUS FOR
ALL SQUARE ELBOWS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
5. FLEXIBLE DUCTWORK:
A. THE FLEXIBLE DUCT FOR CONNECTION OF CEILING AIR DIFFUSERS TO SHEET METAL DUCT
SHALL BE A FACTORY FABRICATED ASSEMBLY CONSISTING OF AN INNER SLEEVE,
INSULATION AND AN OUTER MOISTURE BARRIER. THE INNER SLEEVE SHALL BE
CONSTRUCTED OF AN ELASTOMERIC COMPOUND REINFORCED WITH WOVEN FIBERGLASS
BANDED TO A VINYL COATED SPRING STEEL WIRE SUPPORTING HELIX. A MINIMUM 1 INCH
THICK FIBERGLASS INSULATING BLANKET SHALL ENCASE THE INNER SLEEVE AND BE
SHEATHED WITH AN OUTER MOISTURE BARRIER OF A REINFORCED METALIZED
MYLAR/NEOPRENE LAMINATE, OR EQUAL.
B. ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE OF THE FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH AIR
DIFFUSION COUNCIL FLEXIBLE AIR DUCT TEST FD72R1: PARAGRAPH 3.2.1, SOUND
ATTENUATION. THE TEST DATA SHALL BE MADE BY AN ACCREDITED INDEPENDENT TESTING
LABORATORY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ABOVE TESTING PROCEDURE.
C. THE SOUND ATTENUATION (INSERTION LOSS) OF THE FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL MEET OR
EXCEED THE VALUES TABULATED HEREIN:
STRAIGHT DUCT INSERTION LOSS IN DECIBELS PER LENGTH OF 10 FEET
WITH NO AIRFLOW FREQUENCY BANK - HERTZ
D. CERTIFIED TEST DATA SHALL BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL.
E. INSTALLATION OF THE FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES.
F. FLEXIBLE DUCTWORK TO BE A MAXIMUM OF 6 FEET IN LENGTH.
G. CONNECTIONS, AIRTIGHT JOINTS, FASTENED WITH CLAMPS (SIMILAR TO IDEAL 5200 OR
5600 SERIES) AND SEALED WITH SEALING COMPOUND AND TAPE.
H. FLEXIBLE DUCT BENDS SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH CENTERLINE RADIUS NOT LESS THAT 1.5
TIMES DIAMETER AND SHALL NOT BE CRUSHED TO FIT LIMITED CLEARANCE.
I. SUPPORT FLEXIBLE DUCT PER SMACNA STANDARDS.
6. FIRE DAMPERS SHALL BE DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA
STANDARD 90A AND UL STANDARD 555 AND SHALL BE SO LABELED WITH A PERMANENT
IDENTIFICATION. FIRE RATING AS REQUIRED. FIRE DAMPER SHALL BE OUT-OF-AIR STREAM TYPE
WITH A FACTORY SUPPLIED SLEEVE. FIRE DAMPER SHALL BE SIMILAR TO RUSKIN MODEL IBD 20
STYLE B.
7. COMBINATION SMOKE AND FIRE DAMPERS
A. MULTI-BLADE DAMPER CLASSIFIED AND COMPONENTS:
1) 1-1/2 HOUR UL FIRE DAMPER.
2) LEAKAGE RATED SMOKE DAMPER UNDER STANDARD UL 555S.
3) PROVIDE INTEGRAL DUCT SMOKE DETECTOR OR INTERLOCK WITH SMOKE DETECTION
SYSTEM.
4) END POSITION SWITCHES.
B. OPERATING SHAFT: 90 DEGREE OPERATING RANGE BETWEEN OPEN AND SHUT.
C. WITH FACTORY SLEEVE: OPERATOR AT EXTERIOR OF SLEEVE.
D. DAMPER ACTUATOR:
1) FUSIBLE LINK:
a. UL LISTED.
b. TEMPERATURE RATING NOT GREATER THAN 50 DEGREES F ABOVE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE IN DUCT.
2) COMBINATION FIRE/SMOKE DAMPERS:
a. RUSKIN FSD-36 OR EQUAL.
3) COMBINATION FIRE AND SMOKE DAMPERS IN SUPPLY AND RETURN DUCTS LEAVING
SHAFTS SHALL BE CONTROLLED INDIVIDUALLY AND MANUALLY FROM THE FIRE
COMMAND STATION. FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS SHALL, UPON SENSING SMOKE ON THE
FLOOR, CLOSE BOTH THE SUPPLY AND RETURN DAMPERS.
8. ACCESS DOORS:
A. FURNISH ACCESS DOOR OF SUFFICIENT SIZE AS REQUIRED, FOR ACCESS, INSPECTION,
MAINTENANCE, AND REPLACEMENT TO ALL INSTRUMENTS, CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENT.
B. INSULATED OR UNINSULATED, SAME AS DUCT.
C. PROVIDE MINIMUM 20 INCHES BY 14 INCHES, EXCEPT DUCTS LESS THAN 16 INCHES; ONE
DIMENSION 20 INCHES AND OTHER DIMENSION 2 INCHES LESS THAN DUCT WIDTH.
1) UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, ALL ACCESS DOORS TO BE HINGED TYPE, WITH LATCH
