Per 714.4.1.2 Any recessed fixtures that are installed in fire-resistance-rated
horizontal assemblies shall not reduce the level of required fire resistance.
Install 5/8Ó type X drywall to create a five (5) sided cavity in which to place the
recessed fixture, fire tape the drywall joints, install the recessed fixture, apply a
liberal bead of Hilti Fire Stop sealant CP 606 to the perimeter edge of the drywall
of the cavity drywall and then install the ceiling drywall. Inspect the sealant joint
from the attic to insure a complete seal of the joint to the ceiling drywall apply
addition sealant at the perimeter if needed.
