Re: Fleet Maintenance Tire Carousel Support, Town of Vail Maintenance
Building, 75 South Frontage Road, Vail, Eagle County, Colorado (M&N
#10798)
Gentlemen,
Monroe & Newell Engineers Inc. conducted a structural site visit at the Town of
Vail Maintenance Building on April 17, 2017. The purpose of our site visit was
review the location of two tire carousels. These new racks will provide storage for
a large number of tires and will be placed near the east edge of an existing
maintenance pit in the existing maintenance facility.
The following the results of our analysis of the floor structure and the new rack
equipment:
1. The first new tire carousel is a type T 45200-0944-15 as manufactured by
Vidir Machine, Inc. It has a total weight of 17,858 lbs, including a full load
of tires. Each leg will apply a load of 4,465 lbs onto the floor slab.
2. The second new tire carousel is a type HT5493-0633-12 as manufactured
by Vidir Machine, Inc. It has a total weight of 19,890 lbs, including a full
load of tires. Each leg will apply a load of 4973 lbs onto the floor slab.
3. Each bearing plate for the tire carousels will be attached to the existing
floor slab with two 5/8" diameter expansion anchors with a minimum
embedment of 4 inches into the slab. Where bolts cannot installed into the
slab they will have to be welded to existing steel angles that surround the
maintenance pit edge.

..
4. Where the tire carousel support legs are not bearing on the existing floor
slab or on the perimeter wall on the east side of the maintenance pit
additional steel posts will have to be installed inside the pit, directly under
the tire carousel legs. See the attached section SX1 for the new steel post
detail.
5. All requirements and specifications for the installation and the operation of
the tire carousels shall be strictly followed.
6. Attached are the structural specifications for the support of the pit roof
structure and support posts.
We will provide a final site visit once the tire carousels are in place to review the
installation. If any questions remain, please call.
Very truly yours,
MONROE & NEWEL
