Matt Panfil From: Gpaxvail <gpaxvail@aol.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 21, 2016 6:37 AM To: Matt Panfil Subject: Re: Bridge Rd over Gore Creek update Matt, I have not looked to see where the Bridge Road bridge is on the agenda today but my afternoon commitments may prevent me from attending the DRB meeting today. I would ask that you please convey my concerns to the DRB. 1. The design of the bridge abutments is a bit too industrial looking for my east Vail neighborhood. While the proposed integral color concrete is a nice feature (darker is better), the bush hammered concrete finish just doesn't fit with the typical Vail aesthetic. 2. Perhaps the piers can simply be eliminated. I offer this suggestion as their elimination would minimize the visual impact of the new bridge and the need to repair them every Spring after the plows come by and do their thing with the ice and snow. I would also offer my observation that the speeds of cars coming down Bridge Road and the new bridge alignment with the small jog in the path of travel will put the piers in the line of fire. I have seen cars buried up to their windshields in the snow bank at the north end of the road and cars have demolished the mailboxes at the top of the street as well. Ask Rollie for his observations as he used to live two doors away. 3. If the piers can't simply be eliminated, then perhaps a different form liner is more appropriate: a stone infill pattern or just a simple stucco look with a stone cap would be easiest to repair. Chad has told me that the TOV does not do stone veneer outside the core. Given all the veneer islands on the way out to the Racquet Club, perhaps the use of stone veneer on street improvements needs to be reinstated. Thank you for your consideration. As the closest neighbor, I am probably the one most affected day in and day out by the decisions you make today. Sorry I cannot attend in person. I am going to try and be there. Please be forewarned that I am going to request some form of upgrade to the appearance; those buttress piers are just too industrial for me to look at day after day. Battered, board formed concrete, a stone form liner or no piers at all would be better(save the money!). And I assume there is no lighting? Nothing personal- I appreciate your keeping me informed. And I don't see a gutter or pan along the west side of Bridge Road. How do you plan to handle the water that runs down the side of the street for 2 weeks every Spring? Is it going to erode your walls? And please don't forget my conduit for access to the Comcast pedestal- my TV signal coming from the pedestal on Lupine is at Comcast minimums. And finally, you should be aware that cars tend to come down Bridge Road at a pretty good clip-even in Winter(last winter, someone in a black car removed several of the mailboxes at the top of the road- I missed that one but found black plastic shards everywhere the next Spring. The mail lady was p.o.'d. And I have seen cars buried up to the windshield on the north side of the Bridge). That little wiggle in the road puts the SW bridge corner in the impact zone- hope it is well reinforced. I'll let you know when it goes to DRB. I haven't had a date assigned yet by planning. I can run it by some folks about using stone veneer 2 on the pilasters. I'll get some pricing and see if it will fit within the budget. I know that will be the first question I get. The direction I have right now is we don't do stone veneer outside of the villages and roundabouts. Please let me know when you will be at the DRB as I might attend. Any chance of changing those concrete piers to stone? Attached are some renderings and plans for the new Bridge Road structure over Gore Creek. Construction is still planned for the summer/fall of 2017. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
