RE: Amendment to DRB plans for West Wing of VVMC
Thank you for your time last week to discuss a few minor projects at VVMC. The purpose of this
memo is to describe a proposed amendment to DRB plans for the West Wing.
Background
The West Wing was approved in the Spring of 2015 and construction is nearing completion.
Due to an unforeseen change in program, the hospital pharmacy was moved to the West Wing.
This use requires specialized venting that needs to daylight on the roof. As it is not possible to
run venting through the building, the duct work is proposed to run on the exterior of the
building as depicted below.
Note that the perspective above accurately depicts the location of the duct, however the east
elevation of the building includes two materials and colors and the screen wall is a dark
brown/green color.
Proposed Duct Work
The duct is 12” in diameter and has been located to be as unobtrusive as possible. The duct will
penetrate the Level 1 roof at the northeast corner of the West Wing and run along the east side
of the West Wing approximately 50’. This portion of the duct will be painted to match the red
brick on the West Wing. The duct will then run vertically to the roof of the building. This
portion of duct will be painted to match the two wall materials on this elevation of the building.
After the duct wraps over the parapet it will be painted a dark brown/green to match the
existing roof color and the color of the existing screen wall. Paint samples have been provided
under separate cover. A sheet providing paint names/numbers is provided on the following
page.
The sketch below provides a detail of the vertical portion of the duct.
