It is important to note that the proposed signs represent an initial phase of work that will culminate in a comprehensive sign program for the entire campus. The comprehensive sign program is under development and will be submitted to the Town in the coming weeks. VVMC is proposing approval of these entry signs to coincide with the formal opening of the new entry to the West Wing and the announcement of VVMC’s new name, Vail Health. Below is information on the proposed signs and other topics addressed on the sign application form. The design and location of proposed signs is found at the end of this memo. VVMC Frontage VVMC has +/-515’ of frontage along West Meadow Drive and +/-250’ of frontage along the South Frontage Road (exclusive of the Medical Professional Building). This amount of frontage allows for up to 60 SF of Building Identification signage on each of VVMC’s two frontages. The final allocation of this signage will be determined during the review of VVMC’s comprehensive sign program (to be submitted in the near future). Existing Signs at VVMC Given the size of the site, the variety of uses and the complexity of VVMC, there is currently relatively little signage throughout the campus. Due to recent renovations, a pre-existing Building Identification Monument Sign at the entry along West Meadow Drive was removed and the only current signage at the West Wing are signs for the Emergency Department and the temporary entry at the north side of the building. A Building Identification wall sign is located along the South Frontage Road (mounted to the parking structure). This sign is well within the 60sf allocation. DRB APPROVED 5/31/2017 12:00:00 AM Proposed Signs for West Wing Entry For all intents and purposes the proposed signs replace signage that existed on the West Wing prior to renovations. Proposed signs and their sizes include: Joint Directory Sign As depicted on the attached site plan, the directory sign is proposed at the entry to the West Wing. The sign is 6’ tall and identifies the Hospital and seven businesses and activities/services located within the building. The business identification sign plates are one square foot in size. Sign materials and colors are depicted on the drawings found at the end of this memo. The location of this sign is depicted on the attached site plan. Building Identification Sign As per the sign code, two Building Identification Signs are proposed: • A Building Identification Sign to identify the hospital for pedestrians is proposed at the entry to the West Wing. This hanging sign is +/-8 SF in size and will be suspended from the entry canopy. Sign materials, illumination and colors are depicted on the drawings found at the end of this memo. The square footage of this signage will be applied to the total SF available for Building Identification Signs (see above) for the West Meadow Drive frontage. • A Building Identification Sign to identify the hospital for vehicles is proposed at the entry to the campus from West Meadow Drive. The location of this sign is the same location as the monument sign that existed prior to WW construction. This sign is 35 square feet in size. Sign materials, illumination and colors are depicted on the drawings found at the end of this memo. The square footage of this signage will be applied to the total SF available for Building Identification Signs (see above) for the West Meadow Drive frontage. The total square footage of new Building Identification signs is 43 square feet. Business Identification Sign Two Business Identification Signs are proposed – one for the hospital and one for the Emergency Department. These signs are 6 SF in size and will be suspended from the entry canopy. Sign materials, illumination and colors and the location of these signs are depicted on the drawings found at the end of this memo. DRB APPROVED 5/31/2017 12:00:00 AM
