We had discussed wood early on, but considering the solid colors and
crisp design we decided PVC / acrylic would give the best performance
and longevity. Because there are no "natural" colors in the design the
appearance would be identical whether using wood or synthetic materials.
The sign would consist of three stacked 1/2" panels with 3/16" thick raised
letters. The letters could be thicker, but I am concerned about long shadows
when lighted by the direct lighting in place. Regards,

Also, has there been a change to the sign material? I thought this was intended to be wood with three‐
dimensional relief. If acrylic is the new intended material, at a minimum relief should be provided.
The Design Guidelines and Standards for Signs, Section 11‐5‐2, Vail Town Code, suggest that signs be
composed of predominantly natural materials and encourages, “the creative use of depth, relief,
shading, three‐dimensional projections and other pleasing textural qualities.”

I believe the required height from grade (clearance) needs to be 8 feet.
The sign is a layered PVC ellipse with flat-cut-out acrylic letters, 24"h x 39"w,
just under 6 square feet. The frontage is 20 feet counting both angles. You
guys will have to submit / sign the application and pay the fee to get this
approved. Anything else? LMK,
