HomeMy WebLinkAboutDRB16-0337 Narrative.pdf Project Narrative: Simba Run Pool Air Handling Upgrades
Description:
Installation of new pool room air handling equipment on the roof of Simba Run, including a
gas fired duct furnace, intake air duct work, and exhaust air duct work.
Background:
Existing air handling equipment vents humid and corrosive air into the attached parking
garage, causing extensive corrosion damage.
The existing air handling system also has difficulty maintaining the recommended 82 degree
air temperature in the pool room on cold winter days and is expensive to operate because it
all electric. Failure to maintain the required air temperature causes increased humidity levels
and condensation in the pool room which also causes corrosion.
This project replaces a previously submitted project which would have utilized a dehumidifier-
based solution to the humidity/condensation/corrosion problems described above.
Purpose:
The purpose of the air handling upgrade is to:
1. Vent the humid exhaust air directly outdoors instead of into the parking garage.
2. Preheat intake air with a gas fired duct furnace to supplement the electrical heaters
and reduce energy costs.
Details:
The new air handling equipment will be installed on the roof of Simba Run, in the same area
as the existing air intake for the pool room. Please refer to the sketches and engineering
drawing included with this submission for details.
The duct furnace will be mounted on a shelf attached to the back wall. An acoustic screen
will be provided around the duct furnace to assure quiet performance. The screen will be
attached to the back wall.
The shield will be fabricated from sheet aluminum and painted to match the back concrete
wall.
All duct work will constructed of galvanized steel and painted to match the color of the back
concrete wall.
