The focus for February was the Chicago media event as well as continuing to get content/pitches out the
door to media. Following are some key action items the agency performed last month.
• Continued to update the new media center with fresh, relevant content.
• Attended the Visit Denver media event in February.
• Distributed the summer 2018 “what’s new” press release.
• Starting pitching the “creative ways to connect with animals” in Vail story in conjunction with tge
Year of the Dog starting in February.
• The agency started to develop content for pitches on the performing arts culture in the summer and
outdoor adventures.
• Continued to work with the team at the Vail Valley Foundation to finalize details for the Austin event
in conjunction with the GoPro Mountain Games.
• Secured dates and host property for the June press trip.
• Started securing lodging for select individual media visits this summer.
• The agency continued to coordinate with the Vail Valley Foundation on incorporating an element of
Vail Dance Festival into the spring media mission to Mexico City.
Chicago Media Tour
Kristin Yantis and Gabe Shalley from Vail Resorts traveled to Chicago Feb. 20-22 for media visits. For the
third year in a row, United Airlines kindly provided us with a suite at a Blackhawks game. We had 13 media
attend the game ranging from the editor in chief of the Chicago Sun Times to the travel editor from the
Chicago Tribune. The following writers/influencers attended the event:
• Freelance writer for American Way, Chicago Tribune and others
• Contributing editor to Women’s Health online
• Editor-in-chief of the Chicago Sun-Times
• Family Vacation Critic influencer/blogger
• Contributing writer to Forbes Travel Guides
• The Working Mom Travels influencer/blogger
• Sara in Style influencer/blogger
• Traveler Ted influencer/blogger
• Travel editor for the Chicago Tribune
• Well-Traveled Kids influencer/blogger
• Freelance writer for Chicago magazine, Family Traveller and others
• Freelance writer for Teen Vogue, Shape magazine, Allure and others
• Freelance writer for New York Times, United Hemispheres and others
Yantis also scheduled a one-on-one meetings with a new freelance writer who contributes to Robb Report,
Chicago Magazine, Eater, Tasting Table and others.
Sample Media Placement
Each month we will provide the VLMDAC with highlight clips. All media clips are available in the VLMD
online portal. The agency also will provide the VLMDAC with more comprehensive, analytic reports on a
quarterly basis.

Note: Content submitted to CTO on behalf of Walking Mountains and the story ran on the wire in
several outlets including Money, more than two dozen TV websites, the Atlanta Journal
Constitution and others.

Focus for March
• Attend the Visit Denver media event and conduct one-on-ones with select Front Range media and
influencers.
• Tighten up details for the April media mission to Texas including the April 13 partnership event with
the VVF.
• Coordinating with the VVF on the spring media mission to Mexico City
• Continue to pitch content such as performing arts and outdoor adventure information.
• Continue to develop teen-focused strategies and ideas including local teen
influencers/ambassadors and family travel editorial board.
• Finalize dates and partner properties for the fall press trip.
• Begin outreach for the June press trip and individual media visits.
