PO Box 3613 Vail, CO 81658 Dear Mr. Cuccia, For the period ending April 17, 2018, representatives of GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc. were on site to provide materials testing services at times scheduled by the Contractor, Subcontractor and/or Owner. Our reports have been completed in the field as our testing and observations were performed. The Contractor and applicable Sub Contractors were notified of the testing results and/or observations prior to our departure from the project site. This summary report includes the observation reports as well as the materials test results. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if you have any questions concerning these reports. Sincerely, GROUND ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS, INC. Chris Hutto, CET Construction Services Manager 303 Gore Creek – Row House # 8 - Materials Testing/Special Inspections Vail, Colorado Job #17-6553 GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc. Period Ending 4-17-2018 General Comments Field Observation Reports Client: www.groundeng.com Englewood, Commerce City, Loveland, Granby, Gypsum 303 Gore Creek, Row House # 8 Guy Cuccia Cuccia Construction, Inc. PO Box 3613 Vail, CO 81658 Job No: Date: Field Representative: General Comments As scheduled, a representative arrived on-site to perform the below discussed services and we have the following comments. Shane Sorensen 17-6553 June 6, 2017 ***OPEN HOLE*** The exposed materials at the base of the excavation for the north expansion foundation footings and SW interior spread footings were observed. At approximate building elevations of 96' for north expansion and 96.8' for SW interior spread footings, the exposed materials appeared to be comprised of primarily coarse grained sands and gavels with scattered cobbles that were generally consistent with our experience of the anticipated conditions in this area. A mini-excavator was used to expose the undisturbed native material in the foundation excavations, and a jumping jack used to recompact the surface. Inter-Mountain Engineering, Inc. prepared a project geotechnical report for this site dated 8/25/1981, referenced in plans, but it is not available at this time. Plans call for a maximum allowable soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf. Quantitatively verifying bearing capacity generally requires access to subsurface and Standard Penetration Test data. Based on the limited amount of available subsurface date, the observed soils are deemed to be likely capable of providing an allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 psf, however, the possibility of the presence of weak subsurface materials resulting in allowable bearing capacities less than 2,000 psf cannot be ruled out from surface observations only. In the event that quantitative verification of allowable bearing capacity is necessary, drilling and sampling should be performed. We did observe one area near the NW corner to be above optimum moisture content due to previous saturation from roof drains, which are now rerouted. We recommended removing the soft, wet material and replacing it with properly compacted native material. Guy with Cuccia Construction was immediately notified of today's observations. Currently the shear plates are welded on one side to the beam with approximately a 1/8" to 3/16" fillet weld. 1) WPS - Welding Procedure Specification : The detailed methods and practices including all joint welding procedures involved in the production of weldments. All prequalified WPS's shall be written. WPS's should be assigned an identification #. 2) WQTR - Welder Qualification Test Record : Performance qualification test to determine a welder's ability to produce sound welds. This shall be performed in conformance with a WPS. Identification # of the WPS shall be displayed on the WQTR. 3) Continuity Record : Clause 4.2.3 Period of Effectiveness. A welder's qualification is considered remaining in effect provided; the period of time that the welder does not engage in the given process does not exceed 6 months, the contract documents state differently, or there is a specific reason to question a welder's ability to produce sound welds. The welder's employer should maintain records of each welder's use of qualified welding processes. 4) Common Processes : SMAW - Shielded Metal Arc Welding, commonly referred to as stick welding. FCAW - Flux Cored Arc Welding, commonly referred to as wire feed. GMAW - Gas Metal Arc Welding, commonly referred to as wire feed. SW - Stud Welding, commonly referred to as headed anchor studs (HAS), threaded anchor studs (TAS), and deformed anchor studs (DAS). 5) Most commonly used welding codes: AWS D1.1 - Structural Welding Code, covers carbon or low alloy steels 1/8-inch or thicker. AWS D1.3 - Structural Welding Code Sheet Steel, covers structural sheet/strip steels including cold formed members (Metal Studs) equal to or less than 3/16-inch. Decking usually requires single and double sheet certification. AWS D1.4 - Structural Welding Code Reinforcing Steel, covers reinforcing steel to reinforcing steel and reinforcing steel to carbon or low alloy Weld Certification Submittal Information Cuccia Construction Inc.
