1100 Hornsilver Circle, Vail Colorado Guardrail and Deck
Repair
We are seeking to replace the Guardrail and vertical Pickets(Balusters) at our
home at 1100 Hornsilver Circle. The existing decking and guardrail is over 25
years old and is in need of replacement. In addition, the current guardrail does
not meet the code requirements of having no more than a maximum of 4 inch
opening.
Our proposed guardrail and pickets will emulate the design found on the
Christiana Lodge in Vail Village. The picket will be stained to match the light
cedar trim that currently exists on the soffit of the house (Natural Cedar by
Sherwin Williams). The horizontal elements of the railing and the 4 x 4 posts will
be painted to match the existing dark brown trim (TurkishCoffee by Sherwin
Williams) on the exterior of the house.
The proposed guardrail and pickets will not have any openings greater than 4
inches. In addition there will be a horizontal trim piece that is located no more
than 2 inches above the walking surface of the deck.
All decking will be replaced with Fiburon Symmetry"Burnt Umber" No structural
changes are anticipated to the underlying 2X joists and glulam beams although
some repairs to the joists may be necessary once the existing decking is
removed.
In addition we will be replacing the garage doors with a style that matches the
guardrail and pickets.The new doors will have vertical 1 x 6 T&G cedar planks
that are stained the same Natural Cedar as the pickets and soffit. There will be a
1 x 6 SPF picture frame around the perimeter of each door that is painted the
Turkish Coffee(the same color as the exterior trim on the house).
We believe that these changes will enhance the building exterior and tie together
the various element of the home in an alpine flavor that is currently missing.
