Services Performed: Observation of hillside excavation for parking structure
Placement Location: Excavation for garage structure and soil nail retaining wall
Comments: As requested by Tom with Haselden Construction,we visited the site and observed the beginning of the excavation for the
parking structure and associated north side soil nail retaining wall. We observed several feet of topsoil being removed from the
center portion of the excavation and exported with other export material from that area. We also observed several tiers of
abandoned MSE retaining walls buried beneath the soil on the hillside. Haselden informed us that these were part of a
playground that was removed in the past. We reviewed the project geotechnical report issued by GROUND Engineering for test
hole locations and boring logs. The test holes were drilled near the perimeter of the proposed structure and north of the
proposed soil nail wall. The subsurface conditions in the test holes generally consisted of approximately 1 1/2"to 4 3/4"of
asphalt or approximately 3"to 4"of topsoil at the surface,underlain by sands and gravels,including cobbles and boulders,
extending to the test hole termination depths. The presence of any existing man-made fill materials were not obviously apparent
and the determination thereof was not included in the scope of services at the time the report was prepared.
