Fire Protection System—2nd Floor- West
Mr. Vaughan:
Rondinelli Life Safety was on-site on August 15, 2018, to witness pre-testing of the fire
protection systems in the renovation of the 2nd Floor—West Building. Testing began with
Alarm Specialists at approximately 9:30a m and ended at 11:00pm. Below you find my
comments and observations from today. Due to scheduling issues, RLS was requested and
permitted by the Town of Vail Fire Rescue Services to witness the Fire Alarm Pretest and Final
Inspection for documentation and the issuance of the occupancy of the 2nd Floor.
1. All smoke detectors (4) located in the corridor were activated using aerosol smoke. Each
device successfully reported an alarm condition at the FACP as well as verified that the
device address and location matched the location in the FACP.
2. The smoke detectors located in the guest rooms were activated using aerosol smoke. Ali
sounder bases activated successfully, and the device location was confirmed at the
FACP.
3. In rooms with gas fireplaces, a combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector is
provided. All carbon monoxide devices were activated using CO aerosol. All sounder
bases on the devices successfully activated and the device location was confirmed at the
FACP.
4. Manual pull stations located in the corridor were activated and the location of the pull
station was confirmed at the FACP. All horns and strobes successfully activated, and all
strobes were in sync with each other.
5. The sprinkler escutcheons located in the rooms and corridor were observed for proper
installation and clear of masking tape. Several had masking tape on the escutcheons ,
the tape was removed in my presence. All other escutcheons were in place and clear of

any caulk or paint although it is our understanding that all sprinkler escutcheons are to
be replaced at a later date.
6. RLS witnessed all guest room and corridor occupant notification devices as operational.
7. Other observations found on the 2' floor;
• Smoke detectors located in electrical room and elevator lobby were clear and
operational.
• There were smoke detectors in Room 204 and the corridor near Rooms 210 and
218 that did not report properly. The devices were switched out and verified as
reporting properly as programmed.
• We observed activation of the manual pull stations on the 2nd floor corridor.
• I observed all sprinkler sectional control valves in the open position, with no
work being done on the sprinkler system on the 2nd floor.
• All rooms were in final clean-up, with final assembly of furnishings.
• Electrical and Storage Room had some debris and storage that was to be
removed with the final clean-up.
• There were no issues observed that would prevent final inspection by the
Building Department.
Based upon Rondinelli Life Safety's testing and observations, it is our belief the fire protection
system on the 2nd floor -West Building is installed and properly working as designed. This floor
is acceptable for occupancy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact
me at 303.748.5846.
