a. Furnish and install a completed waterproofing assembly including surface
conditioner, a monolithic, rubberized asphalt membrane, protection
courses, and flashings.
b. Submittals:
1) Certification showing that all waterproofing components are being
supplied and warranted by the manufacturer.
2) The waterproofing contractor shall submit the following documentation:
certification or license by the membrane manufacturer as an authorized
applicator of the product for a minimum of five (5) years.
3) Upon completion of the work, the contractor must supply the owner
with 1-year watertightness warranty includes labor and material.
4) Material data for: MM6125-FR hot, fluid applied, rubberized asphalt
membrane waterproofing system, Hydroseal PMMA System, and related
components manufactured by: American Hydrotech, Inc.
c. Pre-construction conferences: The manufacturer will meet with the
necessary parties at the jobsite to review and discuss project conditions
as it relates to the integrity of the waterproofing assembly.
d. Delivery, storage and handling: deliver materials in original unopened
containers of packaging clearly labeled with manufacturer's information.
e. Project conditions: Application of the membrane shall not commence nor
proceed during inclement weather. All surfaces to receive the membrane
shall be free of water, dew, frost, snow and ice. Application of
MM6125-FR system shall not commence nor proceed when the
ambient temperature is below 0°F. Application of PMMA shall not
commence nor proceed when ambient temperature us below 37.
Do not allow waste products (petroleum, grease, oil, solvents, vegetable or
mineral oil, animal fat, etc.) To come in contact with the membranes. Any
exposure to foreign materials or chemical discharges must be presented to
membrane manufacturer for evaluation to determine any impact on the
waterproof membrane assembly performance.
f. Inspection: deck/wall surface condition: assure adequate protection
during installation of the waterproofing assembly. The waterproofing
contractor shall examine all surfaces to receive the waterproofing
assembly to verify it is acceptable and proper for the application of the
membrane using the pre-installation & application guidelines. The
waterproofing contractor shall not proceed with the installation of the
waterproof membrane assembly until all deck defects have been
corrected.
g. Preparation: All surfaces must be dry, smooth, free of depressions, voids,
protrusions, clean and free of unapproved curing compounds, form
release agents and other surface contaminants. Concrete deck must be
monolithic, smooth, free of voids, spalled areas, laitance, honeycombs,
and sharp protrusions.
h. Test patches: The membrane application shall proceed only after the
successful completion of test patch to check the adhesion of the membrane.
Apply a test patch of monolithic membrane 6125 to the surface and check its
adhesion per the installation guidelines of American Hydrotech.
i. Installation of Surface Conditioner: The use of surface conditioner to the
plywood or concrete may not be required. Confirmation of this shall be
determined by the manufacturer. If conditioner is deemed appropriate by
the manufacturer, using a hand held sprayer evenly at a rate of 300 to 600
sf/gallon depending on surface texture. Surface conditioner should "tan" the
surface, not blacken it. Allow sufficient time for the surface conditioner to
thoroughly dry prior to the membrane application.
j. Installation of the hot, liquid-applied membrane: the membrane shall be
heated in double jacketed, oil bath or hot air melter with mechanical
agitation, specifically designed for the preparation of a rubberized asphalt
membrane. Heat membrane until membrane can be drawn-free flowing at a
temperature range between 350°f and 375°f. Membrane exceeding 400°f
shall not be used and shall be properly disposed of. All detailing and flashing
shall be done in accordance with the manufacturer's standard guideline
details and these drawings. All detailing and flashing shall be completed
before installing the membrane over the field of the substrate. Apply the
rubberized asphalt membrane at a rate to provide a continuous, monolithic
coat of 215 mil minimum, but not less than 180 mil thickness. Install ultra
sheet waterproofing flashing at edges and terminations as shown in the
details prior to installation of the protection sheet to ensure
membrane-to-membrane adhesion. Embed the protection sheet into the
membrane while it is still hot to insure a good bond. Overlap adjoining sheet
edges (dry) a minimum of 2"-3" (50.8 mm - 76.2 mm) to insure complete
coverage. Install rigid protection board over embedded protection sheet,
stagger the joints and install 90 degrees to the protection sheet.
k. Water Test: The waterproofing application shall successfully pass a 24 hour
water test. The test shall be as follows: for each deck area pond water to a
minimum depth of 2" for a period of 24 hours to check the integrity of the
membrane installation.
l. Protection Course: In addition to the Hydroflex 30, install an additional layer
of 1/8-inch thick granulated-surface protection board set in hot waterproofing
over the entire waterproofing system including the areas covered with
PMMA.
Area Drains
a. Area drains shall be Zurn Z158-85 10" square top prom-deck drain w/ static
extension and heel -proof grate manufactured by Zurn Industries, LLC or
Engineer approved equal.
b. Field verify existing drainage pipe size, riser height (if any) type, and
condition prior to installing new drain. Connect new drain to existing and new
piping as indicated.Issued for Bid Purposes Only11/2/18Issued for Construction27/16/1808/08/18
