RE: DRB 18-0181 1965 Sunburst Drive – R12 Change to Approved Plans - Narrative
Dear board members,
The structural engineer is requiring a steel tube angle brace along each of the three support posts supporting the east
deck as part of the reframing. The angle braces are on the east side of each post. We previously showed what we
assumed would be decorative braces on both sides of the post.
We are proposing to clad the brace in wood similar to how we are cladding the steel columns. We also propose to
match the new brace geometry and size on both sides of the deck support columns and further propose changing the
front entry post braces to have similar shapes. The previously approved braces were more of a curved corbel like
brace whereas the new ones are simple straight braces.
The curved braces were carryovers from the previous home and we feel that the new straight braces are now also
more in keeping with the home’s architecture, which doesn’t feature curves anywhere else.
We feel this minor adjustment is very much in keeping with the original design intent and approval.
