Scope of project:
Landscaping-
1: Remove all slash, lawn debris, dead plants, and trash from site.
2: Utilize existing rock on site to rebuild and reinforce “existing stone retaining wall” to prevent
further erosion and loss of lawn. (north side of water course)
3: Reset exiting flag steps on north side of water course.
4: Use existing rock on site to create “tiered rock wall with beds” north side of water course.
5: Use existing rock on site to create “tiered rock wall with beds” south side of water course.
6: Place flag steps up berm south side of water course.
7: Plant beds with perennial flowers and shrubs.
Stream Work-
1: Use existing rock on site to add to existing rock along water course to keep water course
within current bed and reduce erosion and downstream sedimentation.
2: Use pavers on site to bolster northwest end of water course to prevent further erosion,
retain existing water course path, and prevent further siltation down-stream.
Scope of Work 2:
Project DRB 18-0179
This addition to the scope of work at 4240 Spruce Way is to address the detail of the water
diversion channel that runs through the back of the property.
Please find the revision of the plot mark-up inclusive of tree species and species of flowers
planted in the beds. The changes are indicated in red.
Please find three new sketches of the water diversion channel divided into east, middle, and
west sections. On the sketches, places labeled A, B, C, and D indicate areas where the gradient
of the diversion channel drop over rocks.
Please find photos also titled with the section of water diversion channel that correlate with the
sketches. I have tried to include photos over time. They should help demonstrate the scope of
work done, water flow conditions, and the gradient of the diversion channel.
The scope of work performed on the water diversion channel has primarily been adding to the
existing rock along the banks. During our first year of ownership there was significant flow
during run-off that eroded both the retaining wall of rock separating the lawn from the
diversion channel and washed out a section of our lawn. This was minimized by building up the
rocks on the sides of the channel with an emphasis on the north side upstream from feature A.
I placed additional rocks on top of the island (feature C) on the west end of the middle section
to prevent further erosion of the plants growing there.
In 2017 I placed landscaping pavers along the bank of the west end of the diversion to try and
reduce erosion and maintain the water flow within the existing channel. In the April of 2018,
while the water diversion channel was dry, I extended and reinforced the pavers across the end
of the channel.
All work was done with existing materials (rocks) on site.
With the work done, I have not changed the gradient of the flow of water through this diversion
channel. There is no diversion of any water from the channel. What flows onto the property
flows through the property. The lack of water flowing to the bighorn pond this spring was due
to something upstream of our property (please note photos from April of this year).
I look forward to working with Pete Wadden to insure the integrity of the water diversion
channel and for his recommendations for planting.
