RE: DRB 18-0181 1965 Sunburst Drive – R15 Change to Approved Plans - Narrative
Dear board members,
There is an existing bump out on the northwest side of the building that used to be behind the kitchen sink and
provided a deep sill. The new kitchen design places the range in that location and the existing approved plans showed
us filling in the bump out on the interior so we could mount the kitchen exhaust hood. Most of the windows were also
shown to be removed leaving only two up high.
We would now like to remove the bump out altogether. This will allow us to place larger windows below the hood
while still allowing the hood to be mounted. We would also like to add clerestory windows above the cabinets to
allow more natural light and create more visual interest on that north wall.
During the original review of the project, the DRB members questioned the bump out as an element, its use of
materials not really used anywhere else on the project, and the loss of the windows. The project has evolved and the
issues preventing the removal of the bump out are no longer a concern so hopefully this modification will meet with
DRB approval.
Sincerely,
Brian Sipes, AIA, LEED AP
