They are also used in irrigation systems, boilerfeed, water lines and other installations requiring maximum protection. Features • The DuraCheck features all stainless steel check assemblies for corrosion resistance, reduced fouling and longer valve life. • DuraCast ductile iron body for superior strength, corrosion resistance and lighter weight. • Ultimate mechanical protection of potable water against hazards of cross-connection contamination. • Meets all specifications of AWWA, ASSE, the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California, and UL classified for fire sprinkler service. • Documented flow curves established by University of Southern California Foundation for Cross-connection Control and Hydraulic Research. • All bronze modular relief valve for ease of maintenance. • End Detail – 21⁄2" - 10" (65 - 250mm) Flanged ANSI B16.1 Specifications Reduced pressure backflow preventer assemblies shall consist of two independent "Y" configured check valves and one differential relief valve. By design, the assembly shall automatically reduce the pressure in the zone between the check valves. Should the differential between the zone and upstream pressure drop to 2psi, the differential relief valve will open, maintaining proper zone differential. Valve bodies and cover shall be manufactured of ductile iron ASTM A536, Grade 65-45 12, Ductile iron bodies shall be flanged, ANSI B16.1, Class 125, epoxy coated. The assembly shall be constructed so all internal parts, including seat rings, can be serviced from the top or side or removed while assembly is in line. The assembly shall be rated 175psi (12.1 bar) MWWP. Relief valve assembly shall be of a modular design for ease of mainte-nance. The assembly shall meet or exceed requirements of ASSE standard 1013, AWWA standard C511, and the USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California. Reduced pressure backflow preventer assemblies shall be FEBCO 825YD, or prior approved equal. Operation In a flow condition, the check valves are open with the pressure between the checks, called the zone, being maintained at least 5.0psi (34.5 kPa) lower than the inlet pressure and the relief valve is maintained closed. Should abnormal conditions arise under no flow or reversal of flow, the differential relief valve will open and discharge to maintain the zone at least 2psi lower than the supply. In resumption of normal flow, the zone’s differ- ential pressure will resume and the relief valve will close. Standard Meter is GPM. UL and FM Listings only applicable with approved OS&Y gates. Typical Installation Reduced Pressure Backflow Preventers should be installed with a suggested minimum clearance of 12" (300mm) between port and floor or grade. They must be installed where any discharge will not be objectionable and can be positively drained away. They should be installed where easily accessible for testing and maintenance and must be protected from freezing. Larger sizes should have support blocks to prevent flange damage. Thermal water expansion and/or water hammer down stream of the Backflow Preventer can cause excessive pressure. Excessive pressure situations should be eliminated to avoid possible damage to the system and assembly. The gap drain is not designed to catch the maximum discharge possible from the relief valve. The installation of FEBCO air gap with the drain line terminating above a floor drain will handle any normal discharge or nuisance spitting through the relief valve. However, floor drain size may need to be designed to prevent water damage caused by a catastrophic failure condition. Do not reduce the size of the drain line from the air gap fitting. Model 1011A TESTa n DRaIn® matches all the features and benefits of our Model 1000 by providing both the test function and the express drain function in a multistory installation for a wet fire sprinkler system, with the added feature of an integral Model 7000 Pressure Relief Valve with drainage piping. • The Model 1011A complies with the requirements of NFPA-13 that stipulate a pressure relief valve be installed on all gridded systems and downstream of all pressure reducing valves (see reverse). • The Model 1011A TESTa n DRaIn® is a compact single handle ball valve which includes a tamper resistant test orifice and integral tamper resistant sight glasses, and is 300 PSI rated. • Available in a full range of sizes from ¾" to 2" NPT and BSPT, with all specifiable orifice sizes ³⁄8" (2.8K), 7⁄16" (4.2K), ½" (5.6K), 17⁄32" (8.0K), 5⁄8" (11.2K, ELO), ¾" (14.0K, ESFR), and K25 as required by NFPA 13, 2007 Edi- tion (see reverse). • The included UL/FM Model 7000 Pressure Relief Valve features a flushing handle and is factory rated for 175 PSI. Other pressure settings are available and may be substituted. • Designed to relieve excess system pressure caused by surges or temperature changes as well as solve the dif- ficult problem of providing the relief valve with a convenient drainage-piping outlet. • Shipped with relief valve and bypass drain ports plugged to expedite pressure testing the system. • A locking kit is available and can be ordered with the valve to provide vandal resistance or prevent uninten- tional alarm activation. • Repair kits including (1) adapter gasket, (1) ball, (2) valve seats, (1) stem packing, and (1) stem washer are avail- able for all TESTa n DRaIn® valves. Valve and orifice size must be specified when ordering. Note: It is important to note that the pressure rating of the relief valve indicates an operating range of pressure for both opening and closing of the valve. Standard relief valves are required to oPeN in a range of pressure between 90% and 105% of their rating. the valves are required to CLoSe at a pressure above 80% of that rating. the relief valve should be installed where it is easily accessible for main- tenance. Care should be taken that the relief valve CANNot be isolated from the system when the system is operational. A relief valve should NeVeR have a shutoff valve or a plug downstream of its outlet. Surfaces to which FS-ONE will be applied should be cleaned of loose debris, dirt, oil, moisture, frost and wax. Structures supporting penetrating items must be installed in compliance with local building and electrical standards. Application of firestop sealant 2. Install the prescribed backfilling material type and depth to obtain the desired rating (if required). Leave sufficient depth for applying FS-ONE. 3. Application of firestop sealant: Apply FS-ONE to the required depth in order to obtain the desired fire rating. Make sure FS-ONE contacts all surfaces to provide maximum adhesion. For application of FS-ONE use a standard caulking gun, foil pack gun, bulk loader and bulk gun. With FS- ONE buckets, Graco type sealant pumps may be used. (Contact pump manufacturer for proper selection). 4. Smoothing of firestop sealant: To complete the seal, tool immediately to give a smooth appearance. Excess sealant, prior to curing, can be cleaned away from adjacent surfaces and tools with water. 5. Leave completed seal undisturbed for 48 hours. 6. For maintenance reasons, a penetration seal could be permanently marked with an identification plate. In such a case, mark the identification plate and fasten it in a visible position next to the seal. Notice about approvals •Check that the penetration has been sealed according to the specified drawing in the UL Fire Resistance Directory or Hilti Firestop Manual. For further advice, please contact Hilti customer service. Refer to Hilti product literature and UL fire resistance directory for specific application details. Not for use... •High movement expansion joints •Underwater •On materials where oil, plasticizers or solvents may bleed i.e. impregnated wood, oil based seals, green or partially vulcanized rubber •In any penetration other than those specifically described in this manual or the test reports Safety precautions •Before handling, read the product and Material Safety Data Sheet for detailed use and health information •Keep out of reach of children •Wear suitable gloves and eye protection Storage •Store only in the original packaging in a location protected from moisture at temperatures between 40°F (5°C) and 86°F (30°C) •Observe expiration date on the packaging FirestopSystem Pipe installation SavingLives through innovation & education • Hilti Firestop Guide 2001 • Hilti U.S.: 1-800-879-8000 / www.us.hilti.com210 Material Safety Data Sheet HILTI, INC.: P.O.
