TOWN OF VAIL ' VAIL RECREATION
DISTRICT
April 19, 2012
Dear Vail Golf Course Neighbor,
As you may know, in November 2011, Vail voters overwhelmingly approved reallocation of the
Town of Vail Conference Center Funds for a major renovation of the Vail Golf Club and Nordic
Center, as well as improvements to the Ford Park athletic fields and Gerald R. Ford
Amphitheater. The town and Vail Recreation District (VRD) are currently working together to
move through the town's review process for the major renovation of the clubhouse and Nordic
Center. As an adjacent property owner to the Vail Golf Club and Nordic Center, this letter is to
inform you that in the next week or so you will be receiving notification from the town's
Community Development Department pertaining to a re-zoning request for the land around the
Clubhouse.
This re-zoning is the first step in the development review process for improvements planned for
the Clubhouse. Currently the Clubhouse area is located within two different zone districts. The
proposed re-zoning will clarify this situation by re-zoning the entire Clubhouse area as General
Use (GU). The GU District allows for golf courses (and accessory uses) subject to approval of a
Conditional Use Permit (CUP) by the Planning and Environmental Commission. The CUP
process will entail review of detailed development plans. This review will take place following
the re-zoning process and as an immediate neighbor of the Golf Course you will receive written
notice of when the CUP hearing will be held by the Planning Commission.
The rezoning is currently scheduled for review by the town's Planning and Environmental
Commission (PEC) at its May 14 meeting, followed by Vail Town Council review at their May 21
and June 5 meetings.
Following this re-zoning process the next steps for the renovation project will be the
presentation of proposed improvements plans in late June to the Vail Town Council and VRD
Board of Directors, with a public open house and presentation in early July. The Town and VRD
would welcome your input as we work through the design process for this exciting project
