Re: Vail Golf Course Clubhouse and 18th Hole zoning and Conditional Use Permit
Dear Planning and Environment Commission(PEC):
I have been a homeowner at 1925 Sunburst in Vail since February 1988.
I am writing this letter in objection to the Town of Vail's plans to enlarge the Vail Golf
Course clubhouse and move the 18th green on the golf course. I am aware that a number
of neighbors have filed a lawsuit to prevent the Town from proceeding with its current
plans. I am also aware that the town has sought to amend the Conditional Use Permit -0f
(CUP) it received in 1986 to expand it in both size and scope, and seeks to amend the
zone district to change the golf course parking lot from a general use district to an
outdoor recreation district. I understand the town also seeks to amend the zoning for the
club house to allow it to increase the clubhouse's height.
As a property owner, I feel it is important for the PEC to be aware of my position
regarding the Town's requests. I do not oppose changing the parking lot from a General
Use District to an Outdoor Recreation District. I am still unclear as to exactly what the
Town is seeking in regards to changing the height requirement of the clubhouse and
reserve the right to oppose the town's plans in the future once I am aware of the plan. I
do oppose,the town's request to amend the Conditional Use Permit to allow it to move
forward with its proposed changes to the current clubhouse,the 18th green and the 18th
hole fairway. I do believe that the clubhouse could use improvement but I do not support
converting the clubhouse to an event center.
}
The issues I have concerning the Clubhouse renovation, and the 18th hole and fairway are
too numerous to list in this letter. I feel that any plans to renovate the clubhouse without
moving the 18th green should include the property owners at every level of planning.
Vail is a world class resort and careful consideration should be given to how the current
planning will affect the Vail Golf Course neighbors,the citizens of Vail as well as
visitors that come for a first class experience.
I request the PEC deny the Town's of Vail's request to amend the CUP. The current plan
to move the 18th green and to expand the clubhouse to an event center capacity should not
be allowed. The Town should develop the clubhouse within the existing footprint. The
Town has failed to engage the golf course neighborhood and others concerned to
effectively plan this project. I appreciate you consideration regarding these issues and the
impact your decision will have for years to come.
Respectfully,
