Essentially you will be eliminating the section of wall between the living room and dining room at the Main Level in this residence. A micro=lam beam bears on this wall which supports the Upper Level framing. This beam is supported by a 4-2x4 post built-up within the wall. This post may be removed and replaced with a 7 1/2" diameter Lodge pole post, providing that the beam is supported temporarily during the process. A triple 2x4 shore can be placed under the beam 2' from the existing wall until the new Lodge pole post is installed. The new post can be connected to the framing top and bottom with 4 - 16d toe-nails. Please give me a call if you have any questions or comments regarding this matter.
