ASBESTOS TESTING REQUIREMENTS
The Town of Vail Fire Department has enacted asbestos testing and abatement requirements.
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Environmental
Protection Agency's Regulation No.8, Section III — Project Requirements Part B., asbestos testing and
abatement shall be performed, when the situations listed below are expected to occur.
The structures/components to be disturbed must be inspected for asbestos by a state-certified asbestos
inspector. If the amount of asbestos-containing material to be disturbed exceeds the following trigger
levels then an abatement contractor must remove the material.
Trigger Levels means amounts of material as follows:
_ With regard to single-family residential dwellings, the trigger levels are 50 linear feet on
pipes, 32 square feet on all other surFaces, or the volume equivalent of a 55-gallon drum.
_ With regard to all areas other than a single-family residential dwellings, the trigger levels
are 260 linear feet on pipes, 160 square feet on other surFaces, or the volume equivalent of
a 55-gallon drum.
AN ASBESTOS TEST AND REPORT IS REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR BUILDING
PERMIT APPLICATION FOR ALL REMODEL, ADDITION OR OTHER PROJECTS INVOLVING ANY
DEMOLITION OR REMOVAL OF BUILDING MATERIALS THAT MAY CONTAIN ASBESTOS.
A COPY OF THE REPORT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATION

specifically installed to highlight displays, is switched separately, and is not part of any general lighting.
Lighitng used for general illumination in the space or in non-display areas does need to comply with the
code.

Hi,
I am opening a retail photography gallery in Vail, CO (2003 IECC). I read the code to say that galleries are
e�cempt from the lighting code. The local eletrical inspector is telling me that only galleries that don't offer
�erns for sale are exempt.
The way to code is written, I cannot operate gallery within the lighting code - the display would be
extremely poor. Additionally, I opened a gallery in Aspen, Colorado last year and the inspector there
a�,C,00wed the gallery exemption.
Q�ease clarify ASAP if the gallery exemption applies to my situation. I only sell fine art - no other type of
dis.plays are present and no other items are sold.
