• The Town of Vail Building Department has developed the following procedures to ensure that new construction
sites have adequately established proper drainage from building sites along and adjacent to Town of Vail roads or
streets.
• The Town of Vail Public Works Department will be required to inspect and approve drainage adjacent to Town of
Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary or permanent culverts at access points from the road or
street onto the construction site. Such approval must be obtained prior to any requests for inspection by the
Town of Vail Building Department for footings, temporary electrical or any other inspection. Please call Leonard

� I, introduction
� �
An asbestos assessment survey was conducted by James E. Stout for Jeff Peterson.
Mr. Stout is the Field Representative, EPA accreditation # 4757. The purpose of the
survey was to locate, sample, and assess suspect asbestos containing materials (ACM).
II. Structural Design "�
The facilities are two three-story houses, wood and sheet rock construction.
111. Sampling and Analytical Procedures
Random bulk samples, representative of the suspect asbestos-containing building
materials (ACBM) of each homogeneous area (HA), were collected according to the
guidelines published as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Final Rule: Title II of
the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), 15 USC, Sections 2641 through 2654 and in
compliance with 40 CFR, Part 763. Representative sampling is base on the following
criteria:
I. The distribution of the suspect material throughout the HA.
2. The suspect material's physical characteristics and application.
`�; 3. Random sampling patterns determined for each HA.
Suspect materials sampled and analyzed should be considered to be representative of
materials in each HA if:
1. They exhibit similar physical characteristics.
2. The application of the sampled material can be correlated to the application of
unsampled material.
Bulk samples collected were analyzed utilizing the EPA's Method for the Determination
of Asbestos in Bulk Building Materials (EPA 600/R/116, July,1993) and the McCrone
Research Institute's The Asbestos Particle Atlas as methods references.
Bulk samples we�e collected on March 2, 2006. Analysis of the bulk samples was
performed on the "date reported", as listed in the bulk sample analysis report. Condition
assessments were performed by the accredited inspector at the time of inspection.
Samples were analyzed by Reservoirs Environmental Services, Inc. (Reservoirs).
Reservoirs is accredi#ed by the NVIAP (Lap Code 1896) and participates in the NVLAP
� and AIHA Bulk Asbestos Sample Quality Assurance Programs. �
IV. Notes on Report Format '
Suspect materials alike in appearance and application were sampled as HAs. Suspect
materials were divided into three classifications:
I. Surfacing material: sprayed or troweled onto structural building member. - �
2. Thermal systems insulation: any type of pipe, boiler, tank, or insula#ion.
3. Miscellaneous: other suspect materials, including flooring, ceiling tiles, insulation,
and finishing materials.
HAs found to contain asbestos are described in the following section. Diagrammatic
floor plans showing approximate sample locations of these areas were not available.
Condition assessments and response action recommendations for asbestos containing
HAs are also in the following section. Recommendations may be for more than one HA,
if materials are alike. •
Recommendations are either "general" or "immediate". Immediate recommendations
indicate imminent hazard and should be addressed as soon as possible.

The following is a summary of the types of asbestos-containing materials found at
houses #1, #2, and #3:
House #1 and #2 has sprayed plaster siding.
INSPECTOR COMMENTS: Houses #1, #2, and #3 are scheduled to be
demolished. All friable materials (surfacing) MUST be removed prior to
demolition following Federal and State Regulation (Reg 8).
House #3, no asbestos detected.

Dear Will,
Based upon initial and follow up observations of the wood framing elements of the subject duplex
structure conducted by a representative of our office, and exceptions and comments made to the field
superintendent,it is our opinion these elements were installed in general conformance with construction
documents prepared by our office. We include specific response to items referenced by the City of Vail
Building Inspection Report dated January 3, 2007 as follows (numeration per report):
1) Of the three glu lams installed inverted, only one requires augmentation in accordance with
the detail provided.
2) Roof framing revisions in the master bath were reviewed as installed and found to be in
general conformance to revised framing configurations provided.
3) We understand full bearing in hangers referenced was accomplished by the contractor.
4) We reviewed 5'/2"LVL lookout framing at master closet area of Unit 6 as well as other areas
revised from the submitted permit documents and found them to be in general conformance
with revised configurations provided by our office.
5) Holes drilled in microlams at various locations in both units appeared to be in accordance
with recommendations provided by our office.
6) Revised framing of stud/header groups at the tall window walls adjoining the great rooms of
both units appeared in general conformance with adjustments approved by our office during
the course of construction, ar otherwise assessed as structurally adequate.
