Re: Red Sandstone Elementary School – Monument Sign
Martin/Martin, Inc. Project No.: MS.17.0018.S.01
Ivan:
Per your request, Martin/Martin designed the Monument Sign for the Red Sandstone Elementary School
and the Vail Gymnastics Center. It is our understanding that the sign is located on the north side of the
North Frontage Road, east of the main entry drive aisle. The sign is made from Colorado Buff Stone and is a
maximum of 6” thick and a maximum of 7’-0” above finished grade. A soil bearing pressure of 2000 psf was
used for this design.
Martin/Martin recommends a 2’-2” wide and 4’-0” deep concrete base. The stone sign should be embedded
into the concrete base with a minimum of 10” concrete cover on each side of the stone sign. No
reinforcement is required.
Sincerely,
Sean Molloy, PE McKenzie Danforth
