I am pleased to report to you that the result of that meeting is an attitude of the utmost cooperation on the part of the management of the Bridge Street Shuffle. As evidence of their good faith they are dealing with the outstanding problems found in prior inspections by my Department. I consider this matter to have been resolved. It is my opinion that the seriousness of the matter requires investigation on your behalf. On March 17, 1984, the Vail Fire Department recieved a report . from a party alledgedly named "Smith ", reportedly calling from 476 -9614, that a fire was occuring in the Bridge Street Shuffle and that smoke was showing from the bathrooms. Upon investigation by Capt. Mark Benson of the Vail Fire Department, no fire or smoke was found. Capt. Benson did report the bar was extreemly crowded and issued verbal orders to the management to reduce the number of persons allowed in the bar. In so much as the bar was scheduled to close for the evening soon, Benson agreed to let the patrons leave gradually. The time of the fire report was 01:19 A.M. . The manager was admonished to keep better control on the occupant load. Vail Police Officer Gary Ross was a witness to these events. On March 18, 1984, Capt. Lahey from the Fire Department made a phone call to the Bridge Street Shuffle at about 6:00 P.M., requetsing their assistance in keeping the number of occupants down to the legal number of 120 persons. Capt. Lahey was told the problem the night before was due to an internal problem with the doorman and was assured that the problem had been taken care of. On March 22, 1984, Technician Glenn Moore, the acting officer for the Fire Department, made a routine occupant load check at the Red Lion, Red Lion Lounge, Cyranos and the Bridge Street Shuffle. All occupancies were within their leagl occupant loads except for the Bridge Street Shuffle. Moore counted three times and determined that there were in excess of 175 persons in the bar. He ordered the doorman, who identified himself as Riley, to reduce the number of persons by 50. Upon re- inspection about 30 minutes later, Moore found more persons in the bar than the
