Staff began working with experts at the U.S. , Forest Service last year to develop a plan for addressing this issue. In the fall of 1996, the Town of Vail and the USFS agreed to jointly fund a study to determine the magnitude of the problem in the Vail Valley. To date, the USFS has taken infrared aerial photographs of the Vail Valley to determine the extent of Pine Beetle Infestation. In addition a report has been completed which analysis the scope of the problem and identifies possible alternatives to address the problem. A work session was held on August 26, 1997 to give the Town Council an overview of the problem and to discuss a process for addressing this problem.
