George Ruther ACTION REQUESTED OF COUNCIL: Listen to public input regarding the
alternative community facility plans.
BACKGROUND RATIONALE:
The purpose of this public hearing is to solicit public input on the various site
plans that have been developed to date. The two major questions for the
public and the Town Council are:
1) What site plan achieves the project objectives and works the best for
the project area?
2) Each site plan has the same public uses but different levels of private
development. How comfortable are you with the private development
which is intended to help pay for the public uses?
These questions, will need to be answered to move forward with additional
architectural work and financial planning.

6. Approval of Settlement to Resolve Outstanding Bill for Improvements at Red
Tom Moorhead Sandstone Creek. (15 mins.)
BACKGROUND: Upon completion of the Red Sandstone Creek project
there was an outstanding bill to be paid in the amount of $225,000 plus
interest for the placement of the water main. This bill was incurred due to
the improper placement of the water main at the beginning of
construction. The shallow placement was discovered immediately before
paving was to begin. After two days of mediation, all parties have
reached an agreement to resolve all issues with a reduction in the
amount to be paid and a sharing of those costs. The Town of Vail's share
will be $8,000 in cash and a loan of $5,000 to fund the settlement for the
Stevens Group. This loan will be for a 5-year term with 6% interest, a
personal note signed by Tom Stevens and security through a second
deed of trust on a project underway in Carbondale.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approve Settlement.

RE: BOBBY COATES LETTER TO THE EDITOR, VAIL DAILY, 09JUL00
Diana had faxed a copy of a letter to the editor alleging discrimination against
local bike riders using the gondola. I have confirmed w/Cindy Steitz (VA) the
following rates/charges:
ANYONE buys at the window = $15 to ride gondola, w/or w/o bike
SEASON PASSHOLDER = may ride gondola free OR if s/he wishes
to haul bike, s/he may purchase a full summer bike-hauling pass
for $75.00
SEASON PASSHOLDER = may also pay $10/per ride to haul bike, in
place of getting the full season bike-hauling pass
ANYONE (no pass) may purchase a full summer bike-hauling pass for
for $175.00
Paul Witt indicates bikes do have greater impacts on the mountain than general
pedestrian visitors.
As of 1:50 P.M. Tuesday (7-11-00), 1 had not heard back from Paul Witt so am
providing the current information I have.
