“Under the Sea… A Skating Voyage” December 28 and 29, 2009 Mission Statement The annual Skating Club of Vail Holiday show has three goals. The first is to provide an artistic outlet
for skaters living and training in Vail. The second is to teach life skills such as goal setting and perseverance to the Show’s participants. The third is to provide affordable family
entertainment for Vail’s community and its visitors. The Show is recognized as one of Eagle County’s most outstanding youth group performances each year. It is one of the top youth skating
performances in the country. Attendance Approximately 1,000 people attended the shows. (500 people each night.) The make up of the attendance was predominantly family and a mix of locals
and guests. The show was very popular with members of the Town of Vail staff – about 40 tickets were distributed to employees and their families. Attendance was up from last year. Tickets
Ticket prices were $10.00 for a child under twelve, $15.00 for adult and $35.00 for a family family of four.
Marketing Ads ran in the Vail Mountaineer for six days before the shows. Promos ran on KZYR and the Valley. Interviews ran on Plum and TV8. Flyers were sent to all students in Eagle
County. Posters were hung up from Vail to Eagle. An email blast was sent to all Vail hotel concierges. Revenue Sponsorship 41% Ticket Sales 21% CSE Contribution 15% Registration Fees

in the Skating Club of Vail and the VRD Learn To Skate program. We also tightened our overall budget and solicited private donations from SCV families. Sponsorship sales were down approximately
$4,000 from last year.
Without the financial contribution from the Town of Vail, this year’s show would have shown a loss. By making a slight profit, the Club is able to buy one freestyle session per week
from the VRD. Participants’ Experience The SCV Holiday Show is a season highlight for many of the skaters who participate. They can showcase their skills in a non-competitive way.
To Whom It May Concern: My name is Grace Lincenberg, I am 16 years old and live in Summit County. I have participated in the past eight Holiday shows put on by the Skating Club of Vail.
The shows are always a blast and a great learning experience. From the shows, I have learned how to be disciplined, stay organized, and have fun with people of all different ages. During
rehearsals, we have many long days on the ice. In order to have everything run smoothly, I have learned when to have fun and when to pay attention and get to work. This is a great skill
that I have learned at an early age. Throughout the rest of my life I am going to have to learn to balance having fun with working, studying, etc.-luckily for me I have gotten a head
start. The Skate Club of Vail shows have also taught me how to interact with a variety of people: coaches, parents, young kids, kids my age, and older kids. I have learned how to act
with each age group. For example, when talking to parents and coaches I have learned to be respectful and remain the student. However, when interacting with the little skaters, I have
learned that I can play a leadership role and help them understand what is happening. Because I am a Junior in High School, I am now researching colleges, and almost all want to see
that I have had leadership experience -the SCV shows have definitely given me some great leadership experience. Figure skating has been a major part of my life for the past eight years
and I have learned so much from it. It has given me the discipline to be an excellent student in school and friends and role models to support me in whatever I decide to do in life.
I hope that the SCV shows remains a tradition in Vail so that the next generation can experience all the benefits. Thank you for supporting the Holiday Show! Grace Lincenberg Silverthorne
Dear Town of Vail, My skating career started when I was 8 but I started seriously skating when I was 9. That’s when I joined the Skating Club of Vail. Since then I have improved dramatically
– I went from being a Learn to Skate skater to a Club skater to having one of the lead parts in this year’s Holiday show. Thanks to the wonderful coaches in the SCV and Learn to skate
programs. I feel really good about my improvements to get this far. I look forward to the Holiday show each year because it gives me a chance to show my improvements to my friends and
family. Thank you for supporting the Skating Club of Vail’s Holiday Show. Sincerely, Abigail Brown
January 30, 2010 To Whom It May Concern: I am a second-home owner in Vail. My Family and I spend all school vacations in Vail, several extra ski-week ends and at least 6-8 weeks in the
summer enjoying our home in the mountains. Our daughter, Victoria, is an ice skater who has been part of a club in Chicago since she was 4 years old. She is now 12. We began skating
in Vail when she was 6 as part of a ski-week that our Chicago Club participates in during the summer. As the years have progressed, Victoria has forged strong friendships with the girls
in the Skating Club of Vail and worked extensively with Dawn Ristow. She always eagerly anticipated her skating week as that was when the most progress was made. This past summer she
spent a month here in Vail skating with the Club daily. By the end of the summer we had joined The Skating Club of Vail and committed to participating in the Ice Show at Christmas Time.
The Show is an opportunity not available to us through our Club in Chicago. Victoria was exposed to the process of: -committing to be part of the Show -spending all day at the rink,
responsible for herself -learning many different routines with unique choreography -having to perform at the highest level day in and day out -dealing with the pressure of performance
-reveling in the self-esteem that can only be the result of sacrifice and personal achievement Victoria returned to Chicago and is now skating at a completely new level – with increased
skill, confidence and a renewed sense of commitment to the sport. Sincerely, Jennifer Lansing Chicago/Vail
Dear dawn : I wanted to congratulate you on this year's Holiday Skating Show. I have been attending the show with my niece and nephew (and out of town guests) for years now and this
year's show was fantastic. The theme (Little Mermaid/Finding Nemo/Pirates of the Caribbean) was fun; the costumes were great and the routines by the skaters were well executed. It's
wonderful to see the kids' abilities progress from year to year and to have the veterans' return to help. The crowd at the show I attended was a healthy mix of locals and guests and
everyone was smiling at the end. Thanks for all your efforts and to the coaches and volunteers who help to produce this event; it is an asset to our community! Sincerely, Kevin Foley
