Dear Sybill,
Thank you for referring me to the Town of Vail's website and the information the
committee has posted regarding the July 4th event. As stated during our
conversation, while I personally have a prior commitment on event day if hired, Skyline
would still bring the level of creativity and expertise to Vail's July 4th celebration that you
expect and require. Because of our positive professional history, I would bring in Lewis
Siris of Public Works Inc., another event planning company. Lewis is one of the few
people in the industry I trust not only to co-produce this project with me but to be my
stand-in on event day. However, following analysis of the RFP we have decided not to
respond with a formal proposal this year. Regardless, I wanted you to know our reasons
behind this decision and to leave the door open for working together if things change this
year, or possibly for next year.
Lewis and I both feel that with the task of bringing the event to the next level of
creativity and generating new opportunities for tourist and community
engagement, focusing on sponsorship with the short lead time would take
necessary event development activities off track. If we could bring the event to
the level the Town of Vail desires, namely attracting more people and keeping
them in town longer, a robust sponsorship effort could be launched in time for
2013.
Both my company, Skyline Talent & Events, Inc. and Lewis's company, Public
Works Inc., have a reputation for injecting the creative design and planning into
an event that will take it to the next level. We believe we could bring our skills to
the table and improve Vail America Days this year in terms of creative impact,
but we would not have sufficient time to do that and generate additional funding
within the allotted timeframe.
Should the proposal process fail to generate a company or companies the CSE
believes will meet its requirements, we would be interested in talking with the
committee about taking on the project (with increased TOV funding) to improve
its design and impact this year with an eye on developing sponsorships to support
it for next year.
