HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 Gourmet on Gore ProposalVAIL COMMISSION ON SPECIAL EVENTS 2012 EVENT FUNDING APPLICATION GOURMET ON GORE NAME OF EVENT: Gourmet on Gore PROPOSED DATE(S): September 1 -3, 2012 (includes Monday, Labor Day) AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL CASH FUNDING REQUESTED: $10,000 PRODUCING ENTITY: Highline Sports & Entertainment, Inc. President/executive director's name: Jeff Brausch EVENT DESCRIPTION: 1) Brief description of the event and its activities: A Labor Day Weekend festival of wine, spirits, food and jazz in the streets on Saturday and Sunday, 11am -6pm . Featuring “Brunch on Bridge Street” on Labor Day, Monday, September 3 from 1 1 am -3pm. 2) Additional Funding Request Information : This culinary festival will take place again over Labor Day weekend in the heart of Vail Villa ge. We continue to aim to increase the schedule to include tasting events outside of the open -air event but are proposing to further enhance Gourmet on Gore through a variety of opportunities detailed below. a. Additional Stage and Entertainment i. We will add an additional stage at the east end of Gore Creek Dr ive which will have entertainment throughout the day to liven up both ends of the venue . This will really add to the event by making the entire span of Gore Creek Drive a vibrant venue. ii. The stage will be in the same location as last year’s Monday brunch to the east of Gorsuch’s doors. iii. Continue to enhance and bolster the children’s activities. The activities were a huge hit last year but could use more staffing and additions. iv. Free to the public . b. Demonstration Series i. An additional opportunity, utilizing the above mentioned stage, which will expand the event schedule and drive the goal to continuously enhance the event and the guest experience while showcasing Vail’s finest . ii. This new demonstration series on Saturday and Sunday will enhance the guest experience and provide additional opportunity for guests to interact with renowned culinary talent showcasing Vail’s top -notch quality and variety of expertise . Guests may still enjoy the venue, sample a nd sip on the weekends delicatessens as they have in years past. iii. Recruitment and restaurant outreach will be handled through the event producer. iv. Free to the public c. Gourmet on Gore Tasting Program i. We will produce a high quality event program to be distri buted throughout the event. ii. This program will have full event details that span all weekend and will include i nformation on participating restaurants and wineries as well as room for tasting notes so guests can take home all the great information that the y learned. iii. O pportunity to add advertisements for local events and entities that might be useful to our holiday weekend traffic at an affordable rate. iv. These will be distributed at the main Gourmet on Gore booths and all pouring stations as well as through key lodging partners, sponsors and advertisers. v. The expanded Gourmet on Gore tasting brochure will be complimentary to event guests. d. Progressive Tasting Event and an expanded schedule i. The event will expand by a day with this inclusion on Friday, August 31, in Vail Village (potentially near Meadow Drive and Solaris) ii. Tasting events will serve as a kick off to Vail’s Gourmet on Gore, including a wonderful tie -in at Carrie Fell’s Gallery complete with poster signings iii. This unique event will provide the opportunity for pairings at other sponsor’s or Vail Village locations such as lodging partners, galleries, restaurants or other luxury retailers. 3) Additional event elements : a. Perfection Series Schedule example: i. A demonstration stage booked all day with th e best chefs, mixologist, wine experts and more showing off their talents and sharing the tricks of their trade. 1. Saturday and Sunday 2. 12pm, 2pm, 4pm 3. Series will include a variety of demonstrations, examples below: a. The perfect picnic, from farm to table b. Pe rfect pairs c. Shake n' strain, cocktails with a twist ii. A dditiona l elements and ticketed events may include: 1. Tasting events within local restaurants 2. Casting and Cuisine - fly clinics paired with the tasting event 3. Hike and Dine - guided hiking tours paired with the tasting e vent
