Update on Enhancement Proposal for Vail King of the Mountain Open
Discussed: how to get more people (spectators) into the Vail Village due to the Event.
Proposed: attempt to get “name” players to come to Vail to either participate and/or provide
exhibition(s), etc.
In accordance with the desires of Town of Vail to enhance said Event, Producer (working with Adam
Sutner of VLMD) has contacted the “new” AVP Professional Beach Players Association & Tour in
order to obtain assistance in procuring “name” players.
What has transpired: the AVP has been very helpful in contacting players and helping convince a few
to come to the Vail Event:
Kerri Walsh (1/2 of the United States Olympic Gold Medalists in London) has agreed to
come to Vail during the King of the Mountain Open to help promote the “new” AVP’s
pro beach tour as well as to enhance the growth of said Event.
Agreement details: $15,000 appearance fee for the weekend (this has been negotiated
down from her normal fee of $20,000 per every 2 hours of appearance at an Event);
transportation (airfare for her and her family); lodging, and some meals.)
In return, Kerri would agree to help coach our FREE Juniors Clinic, which takes place on
Friday, June 14th at Ford Park and to have an autograph session and photo op(s) at Ford
Park following the completion of the Clinic. As well, she would participate in an
exhibition (tentative concept to be in the Vail Village) and autograph signing/photo op(s)
session on Saturday afternoon. (Possibility that her husband, who is, also, a highly
ranked professional beach volleyball player, would participate not only in the “clinic”
and exhibition; but, also, play in the tournament.
The AVP has “lined-up” two other highly ranked players, John Hyden and Angie Akers, to participate
and to, possibly, play in the tournament, as well. Both of these players are, quite probably, the best
players from the United States who did not go to the Olympics. Transportation and lodging is, also,
required to entice these players.
The “Event-Within-The-Event” would be an AVP, Town of Vail, and King of the Mountain Volleyball
combined Event. The marketing/promotional “machines” of all parties involved would be put into high
gear to help promote Vail at this time of the year. The overall idea is for something of this nature to
occur during the King of the Mountain Open tourney each and every year.
Expenses expected:
Kerri Walsh: $15,000
AVP players: $ 5,000 (split between the two)
Creation of venue: ???
Marketing/Promotions (to be undertaken by the aforementioned involved parties)
Hopefully, through the VLMD, et al, dollars may be appropriated to make this “Event Enhancement”
happen.
