With the additional funding the demos will be changed into the Vail Whitewater Kayak Series. The series will consist of three different kinds of competitions taking place at or near the Vail Whitewater Park on six consecutive Tuesdays from May 14th-June 18th. Since this will be the initial year of the event, we do not foresee being able to source additional funds from any other place than the TOV CSE. If the event has more than 20 participants for the events, than we believe it will be possible to charge a small registration fee for races and get additional co-op advertising dollars from whitewater product companies. The event: May 14t, June 4th: Ring Your Bell Race: Competitors will have to complete several tasks (maybe ringing a bell around eddys and holes)? And then race across the finish line. . May 28th, June 18th: Down river race. Participants will start at eddy near Up the Creek and end at International Bridge. If possible, two buoys will be placed below the hole that racers will have to turn around both buoys before crossing the finish line. This race will have both a kayak and stand up paddle board component. May 21st, June 11th: Best Trick: Participants will be judged on the best trick they can perform in the hole. Best Surf: Stand Up board contestants will be judged on how they surf the hole. Judges: The staff of Alpine Kayak will be the judges for these events. We might also have guest judges from the local and national paddling community. Participants: All participants will need to sign an AK waiver. We reserve the right to deny entry to any individual based on lack of river experience or intoxication. Cancellation of event: Alpine Kayak reserves the right to cancel any event the day of due to un-safe water levels (too high or low) or other unforeseen obstacles in the river. We will do our best to have all events proceed as planned, but the safety of participants will come first. AK Staff for the event: AK will have at minimum 4 staff at all events. Staff are there to register participants, conduct river safety, record start and finish times (when applicable)and judge racers . Prize Money Awarded at Each Event: 1st Place: $150 2nd Place:$75 3rd Place: $25 Additional Prizes will be given out to participants in the form of gear. Some to be donated by Alpine Quest, others from our vendors. T-shirts, hats, water bottles, ect.. Perhaps these prizes will be awarded for fun stuff like, best retro kayak, youngest participant, costumes?
