HomeMy WebLinkAbout 2016 Starting Hearts Recap2016 All You Need Is Heart 4 May 2016 Presentation to TOV Commission on Special Events Heart Health Expo 2016 All You Need Is Heart 18 February 2016 Starting Hearts, a Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit Alan Himelfarb, Executive Director Phone: 970-763-5306 alan@startinghearts.org 2 Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Event Highlights – Morning Cardiac Screenings 3 •Morning cardiac screenings and consultations: 120, 50% higher than 2015 •Donovan Pavilion provided an ideal venue for increased participation •24 senior screenings underwritten, including transportation by ECO Transit supported by Eagle County Paramedic Services Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Event Highlights – Evening Awards Ceremony 4 •Evening Awards Ceremony, honoring the life’s work of Dr. Morton Mower, co- inventor of the implantable defibrillator •Evening event attendance: 120 Vail Valley movers and shakers, hosted by Kathleen and Dr. Jack Eck Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Importance of Events 5 •Event highlights our community as one of the nation’s leaders in heart health, both through prevention via regular screenings and preparedness in saving cardiac arrest victims via CPR education and defibrillator deployment. •Recognizing Dr. Mower brings attention to a world class researcher and inventor who resides in our Vail Valley. •Results of event and related activities include: •Increased contributions to our mission, which will result in more education and greater deployment of public defibrillators •Acquisition of a matching funds donor via Principal Financial Group •Two new AEDs in Lionshead at the bus stop and parking structure. •A major agreement with Eagle County Schools to teach all students K-12 and all staff, that is 6,800 + 800 = 7,600 trainings This result will garner national attention for the Vail Valley! Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Vail Brand Compatibility The Premier International Mountain Resort Community 6 The event met the standard of excellence by: •Demonstrating Vail as a Model Community for increasing positive outcomes in sudden cardiac arrest events for citizens and visitors alike. •Honoring our local colleague, Dr. Morton Mower, who is recognized worldwide as a major contributor in quality of life through his research and inventions. •Attraction of national brands to our community, including Philips, Physio- Control, Principal Financial Group, and Omron. •Introduction of a number of community movers and shakers to our good works with the support of Town of Vail and other stakeholders including VVMC, Vail Fire Department, Steadman Phillippon, and Eagle County Schools in creation of a model for the nation. Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Event Strengths & Weaknesses 7 •Exceeded expectations in these ways: •A 50% increase in preventative screenings •Increased commitments from community leaders and citizens in contributions, volunteerism, and advocacy •Measures that could be taken for event improvement: •A broader marketing effort to attract a widespread regional participation. •Comparison to past years: •AYNIH has grown year-over-year by more than 50%. The event is now well-positioned to appeal to a broader geographic population in Colorado and the region. Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Community Contribution 8 •Describe how the event impacted Vail’s sense of community: •Providing low cost screenings to citizens and no-cost screenings to seniors demonstrates our commitment to our community. •Recognizing Dr. Mower’s life’s work celebrates the world class talent our valley attracts. •Participation by so many community stakeholders, including Town of Vail, Vail Resorts, Vail Fire, VVMC, ECPS, ECO Transit, and health and wellness vendors shows how committed we are to creating a superb quality of life for our citizens and visitors. Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Topline Marketing Efforts 9 •Event Sponsors: Town of Vail CSE, Vail Daily and Vail Valley Medical Center •Vail Daily and Daily Weekly: $20,000 in total print ads in seven publications across the state •KYZR: Interviews and multiple rebroadcasts, fifty 60 second paid spots •TV8: Interviews and multiple rebroadcasts •Posters throughout Eagle County •Direct mail campaign to 650 statewide individuals and businesses •Social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter, $2,000 with Mobloggy and Swift digital media Town of Vail | CSE | 5/4/16 Potential for Growth & Sponsorships/Media Exposure 10 •We envision tremendous growth potential in AYNIH in winter and our summer Fitness Challenge in becoming the focal point for nationally- recognized events in health and wellness. •Creation of the Vail Valley as a Model Community for the nation in prevention and preparedness has the potential for national attention. •Inclusion of national sponsors in our events, including Philips, Omron, and Physio-Control (already on-board) and target partners such as Nike, Under Armour, and Lululemon, will expand the Vail and Starting Hearts brands.
