concerning events?
Positive
Year Round Resident:
•I think the venue for concerts (Spring Back to Vail, Burton US Open, Snowdaze) in Vail needs to
change. Obviously, Solaris Plaza isn't big enough. Ford Park would be a better choice. Other than
that, town events have been very good & fun!
•Especially enjoy family oriented events and free concerts. Would like to see more family fare.
•I enjoy the events and appreciate the business and vitality that they bring to the Town.
•Nice job in creating opportunities for local residence and tourists alike...
Work Only:
•Events are the year-round lifeblood of Vail.
•Please keep supporting events. Events are what makes Vail stand out form the crowd.
Part -time Resident:
•In the view of my friends, Vail is the top of the heap in events and town.
•Keep them green - the recycling and use of compostable cups, etc is really good
•We actively promote the public events to our friends. Who doesn't like 'free' stuff
•I believe it is an economic driver and very important to the town

•Vail has great events with a lot of variety. Some of them are very busy and crowded because they
are successful. We need people here to support our businesses.

•Events are great to spur activity and atmosphere. I appreciate the commitment from the town to
help drive events.
Q: Do you have any comments on your response
concerning events?
Negative:
Year Round Resident:
•Can Vail please invest money in better bands for some events. Even if a small ticket fee was charged for this
improved entertainment quality. Also smoking at events needs to be better regulated and enforced.
•Seems the crowds you are bringing in some times create a negative impact. The concerts are too crowded. Too
many drugs and smoking!
•There is not enough parking to accommodate the events. Events have taken a turn to attract the younger crowds
that do not contribute to the family environment that Vail was once known for.
Work Only:
•Winter concert performance choices could be more family friendly to limit drug use. I do not feel comfortable
bringing my kids to a concert in Vail.
•I've stopped going to concerts hosted in the Solaris Plaza. It's dangerously crowded, and not a safe atmosphere
for my kids. Vail needs to bet a better handle on safety, circulation and crowd control.
Part-time Resident:
•Parking is the issue. Even if you arrive 15-30 minutes early to a Vail Village event, the garage is full and you are
sent to Lions Head which is an inconvenience and take a lot more time.
•TOV needs to develop an intellectual program like Aspen.
•Wish there were more musical events that appealed to a more mellow and/or family oriented crowd.
Own Business Only:
•Solaris shouldn't have concerts that draw thousands. Lionshead still gets the short end.
Q: Is there a specific type of event you would like to see
added to Vail’s town-wide program?
Year Round Resident:

•BBQ challenge at ford park... maybe to coincide with volleyball or soccer tourney
•big yoga festival and more soccer
Work Only:
•Anything in May or October/November
•More musical events
•Celtic festival
•Local Winter Carnival
•I would like to see more 'theme runs'. (i.e.- color run type runs)
•Jazz concert in winter
•Wanderlust
Q: Is there a specific type of event you would like to see
added to Vail’s town-wide program? (cont.)
Part -time Resident:
•How about a 50's or 60's type music once in a while for us older fellows?
•Love more music - continue with blue grass and jazz, but more classical and rock please.
•more folk or country music events
•Movies in the park
•more music - without being snowboard punk..
•Something that appeals to people over 30
•Craft beer festival
Own Business Only:
•I know we have food events, but maybe another food and wine?
•Live music
•Wine and cheese evenings in the summer in the street with live music!
Get Mail Only:
•More family friendly free outdoor concerts.
•Summer beer festival w/ music (ie/ Telluride Blues & Brews)
•Bring back the Winter Mountain Games!
Q: Do you have any further comments on events?
Year Round Resident:
•Good job on attracting and promoting our events!
•I love that for the most part there is always something free at the events
•Make sure events become self sustaining so after a few years they will not need funding.
•The town needs event venues for the performing arts and concerts in winter and summer. Ford Amphitheater is
underutilized
•Would rather see $$ spent on bringing destination visitors, rather than weekenders or people from Summit
County. I believe quality conference space, different from what exists in the individual hotels, that is central to
the lodging/commercial cores would have this kind of impact.
•I'm beginning to feel that there are too many events and festivals - although it may be good for tourism to have
something going on all the time. I think the joy of living here is diminished by there always being an event or
festival.
•The town should phase out support of events once they are working. No more than 3 years of support.
•I know they are expensive and stressful for employees, but I think it is some of the best marketing that Vail does.
Keep it up.
Work Only:
•Too much is spent on the really big events which should be able to raise the money themselves.
•Only in favor of above if it attracts people who spend money
•Please support more events. These have been the tipping point for economic sustainability during off peak
periods.
Q: Do you have any further comments on events?
Part-time Resident:
•As I stated before, Vail needs an indoor venue for events to be a true cultural destination such as Aspen.
•Change it up some. Art, science, nature events?
•Investing is driving growth and diversification. It may cost the town, but they also benefit in tax and parking
revenue. As I stated earlier key point is to grow wisely, which I believe Vail has done a wonderful job of to date.
•Maybe wine and yoga events in the summer. Something to attract women’s groups.
•Too many summer events - the village is too crowded/noisy
Own Business Only:
•I know we have food events, but maybe another food and wine?
•Without events, we would mostly rely on individual guests to fill Vail which is much harder and more expensive
to attract especially during off peak time periods. People that complain about too many events and people do
not rely on visitors to support their businesses or occupation.

•The Summer Farmer's Market has turned into an Art and Music Festival...we need more food booths and fresh
produce. We also need more local business participation! I've heard from various business owners that it is very
difficult to get a booth space at the Farmer's Market, so maybe it's time to reduce the number of Art/Music
booths each week to allow for more local business opportunities.
THANK YOU
