Q3 Vail Summer PY Report
October 6, 2017 TO: Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council FROM: Kristin Yantis and Emily Tracy, MYPR CC: Laura Waniuk Town of Vail RE: Q3/October Public Relations Report Q3 PR Report As you know, we have shifted to focus more on qualitative measurements however, one of the key ways to measure against our comp set is reviewing number of clips secured to date. Following is a graph that outlines media coverage of Vail against its comp set year-to-date. Vail’s 182 media clips generated 239,500,726 impressions in the third quarter with year-to-date impressions topping 844,321,138. The following illustrates why numbers do not tell the whole story. The qualitative measurements are much more important as they tell a bigger story about tone, message, as well as positive and negative sentiment. • Aspen o A signficiant amount of coverage – 97 hits – was negative and focused on disasters including a summer of unprecedented deaths on Capitol Peak, a mountain biker death, a still-missing climber and the killing of bears o Performing arts coverage including Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Aspen Music Festival o Additional coverage highlighting Aspen’s foliage viewing opportunities and Aspen’s new e- bikes program • Breckenridge o Vail Resorts quarterly earning report discussed record revenue for 2017 fiscal year (PR Newswire distribution) o Coverage was heavy on the summer’s wildfire evacuation orders being lifted o Mostly regional, as opposed to national, news hits o The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts received coverage as well • Park City o Majority of coverage was one blogger’s piece on Park City’s “summer food flavors,” which was picked up around the region o Like Aspen, Park City recived some coverage about the new bike share program o A few global hits about the 2018 World Salt Symposium in Park City • Steamboat o Forty percent of coverage was “What’s New Along Colorado Historic Hot Springs,” which was picked up regionally o Some coverage on bear deaths o The majority of coverage was Colorado publications • Vail o Various apple-focused offerings was a hot newsworthy topic this fall o Vail’s art scene was widely acclaimed by a diverse set of publications o Great mix of local, regional, national and global coverage o “Yamaha Marks Seven Years of Support to the Bravo!
