1. Swearing in of board members by Patty McKenny Town Clerk
Julie Hansen, Nancy Lassetter, Bill Pierce, Kara Woods and Amanda Zinn are sworn in to serve two year
terms to the Art in Public Places Board.
2. Assigning Chair and VICE-chair of board
Amanda Zinn is elected Chair with Julie Hansen elected Vice-Chair.
3. Approval of minutes from March 7th meeting
4. No citizen input
5. Summer programming
Molly shows images to the board of Valerie Theberge’s progress on the skatepark murals. At the end of
April, the town will have scaffolding covered by plastic and heated during the installation. The artist is
going to be in Vail to install the four murals the first two weeks in May. Molly proposes having a dinner
or meet and greet with her team while she is in town.
Molly informs the board about the San Miguel de Allende Sisterhood agreement which she and Kelli
McDonald will present their updates on the exchange programs tomorrow to Town Council. We will
incorporate the work of an artist they would like to bring to the Vail Arts Festival – June 24/25
(http://www.ezcurdia.com/). The artist will demonstrate during the festival and in other capacities as
well. They will also have cultural display items on view.
Molly asks the board to share any ideas they might have for summer programming to our next
meeting. Molly has reached out to Michael Grab – Gravity Glue, but has not heard back from him.
Perhaps we want to explore video mapping on the exterior of the Lionshead Welcome Center. We may
be able to do it in conjunction with the skatepark opening celebration or another event in Lionshead.
We would want to make sure it is a time when people would be visiting Lionshead and then the 3D
mapping could be done at the end of an event like the bluegrass concert. Michael asks about the
opening of the skatepark and if we are able to bring in some professional skaters.
Molly shows images of the yarn bombers Ladies Fancywork Society. She asks the board for feedback on
their projects and if it might be a fit. Amanda mentions the Einstein sculpture or perhaps a bridge as a
possibility. Molly comments that the bike racks and poles are interesting. Amanda shows an image of
one in Denver of octopus arms coming out of the lamppost in Denver.
Molly shows images of sculptural works by Nashville artist Herb Williams. His works are created using
crayons. He has created installations outside. The sculptures transform as they melt. The board
comments that they like his work. Would we be able to bring something indoor. He also creates street
art murals.
The visa process with Lee Borthwick became frustrating. The board still really likes her works and
would like to explore the possibilities of coming to Vail. Julie asks if a grant might be a possibility. Molly
will check with HR. Could she write a grant application to the town of Vail? Bill thinks it seems
unreasonable that we cannot get her to Vail to create an installation. Molly shows the board the
original proposals by the artist with her two proposed budgets. Julie thinks we could offer her a daily
stipend and travel allowance. Molly comments that we can buy the materials in advance. Molly shows
the board the original map with locations for the installation. Kara asks if it is possible to work with all
of the artists. Michael comments that the exchange rate is not in our favor at this point.
Lauren Merrill from the Alpine Arts Center is working on possible having cocktails and canvas events in
the social courtyard of the amphitheater.
Molly mentions the possibility of doing a public art scavenger hunt for kids.

Artful Sol’s interest in placing art on the International Bridge. We should look at the overall program
and the value of placing art on limited locations for year long leases. Julie comments that the she did
not have the adequate engineering to install the work and she wanted to have it their permanently.
Julie comments that we should look beyond Vail Town Center for locations.
Molly reviews with the board the AIPP items which will be on tomorrow’s agenda – Ford Park Portals &
I70 Underpass. Michael addresses the importance of the Ford Park Portals and the overall ambience of
the park and should be brought to the highest level possible. She believes that the I70 proposal from
Gordon Huether should not be an issue.
New Board Member Nancy Lassetter is welcomed to the board.
Meeting adjourned.
