AIPP board members present: Patricia Donovan, Nancy Lassetter, Michael Kurz, Kara Woods, Amanda Zinn
AIPP Board members absent: Julie Hansen, Bill Pierce
Others present: Molly Eppard AIPP Coordinator____________________________________________
1. Approval of minutes from April 4th meeting.
2. No citizen input.
3. Vail ART Pass & Summer Event Dates.
Molly will send out an email to get the renewal of membership when the events are confirmed. Anderson
Ranch is confirmed for July 15th with the auctionette and the tour of the facility. The main gallery will be
installed with the summer gala occurring around our visit in July. Molly asks the board about possible kick-offs
in June. The San Miguel delegation will be in Vail during this month, so we could coordinate an event to launch
the summer ART Pass events. We can combine an event with the artist Juan Ezcurdia who they are bringing
to Vail for this exchange. Molly informs the board about the new Vail Summerfest on June 24th which will
showcase cultural organizations within the Vail Valley. We are planning to have Juan present at AIPP/TOV tent
to show the cross cultural collaboration with San Miguel. It is an evening to kick-off and inform guests about the
summer cultural events. It is being organized by the JazzFest. Michael comments that he likes the idea of
having an event with the artist from San Miguel. Kara suggests possibly doing something at the Amphitheater.
The board likes the idea and just to work on the details. Molly informs the board about WAVE: Light, Water,
and Sound taking place in Breckenridge if any board members are interested. The August event could be the
BIFA (Breckenridge International Fine Art Festival) from August 12 – 21.
4. Board Retreat Review
The retreat will take place June 6 at the Grand View in Lionshead at 8:30 a.m. Molly asks the board to review
the agenda and let her know of anything they would like to add. Molly asks of the board to each bring artist
information who they find interesting. She wants the board to participate in sharing artists and concepts they
might stumble upon or find interesting. Even if it is a photo from their iphone or an artist website, she would like
to get the board to share in the “Artspiration” slide shows again during meetings. Molly thinks the direction of
the collection and Temporary Art Program are two items which are very important to the meeting. The
development of community interest and fundraising is critical now as well. The cultivation of potential donors
needs to be a priority. The outreach to other cultural entities is also very important. Michael comments that this
is key to our agenda. The information center is also evolving which might be working with strategic partners
and messaging either physically or virtually. How to create spaces for artists in Vail is something to discuss as
well. Molly comments that both Vail Jazz and Dance Festival were both looking for spaces for photography
exhibits. While Starting Hearts did a great job with utilizing the Grand View space, they had a team of
volunteers to work in the space. Staffing becomes an issue with these venues.
5. Summer Programming
Art Pass events
Art Walks - June 22 through August 31, 11:00 a.m.
Summerfest June 24 – 4 – 8pm Mountain Plaza
San Miguel de Allende delegation in Vail June 22 – 26
Vail Arts Festival June 24 - 26
Town of Vail’s 50th at Hot Summer Nights – August 23rd. We may want to look at video mapping as a
way to participate and project upon the canopy at the amphitheater. Molly can get pricing if the board is
interested. Molly passes out the brochure for WONDER at the Renwick in Washington, DC. Each room
was transformed into an installation space. She points out Janet Echelman. Her installations are in the
6 figures to million dollar range. She also points out Patrick Doherty whom she contacted in the past as
well. His waiting list is several years long. We may have the possibility to look for funding and
sponsorship if we are able to secure some big name artists for installations in Vail. Molly then shows
the board images from the exhibition at the Renwick.
7. Coordinator Updates
Return of Steve Tobin Steelroots. They have requested the return of the sculptures, so she is working
with Tobin’s trucker.
Relocation of Time Trial Wheel. Mr. Hibberd has called again about relocating this work, so she would
like to revisit it in our June retreat. Amanda comments that we should look at other locations as the
Time Trial is not longer coming through the center of town anymore. Amanda suggests having it near
the bike paths where competitions take place.
Robin Burch who lives near Bald Mountain has asked about the Gordon Westerberg Endless
Possibilities and making it more prominent. She has asked about the island by VMS. It is not owned by
TOV. Michael suggests the little island on the golf course as a possible location for the island. Molly
agrees it is a pretty & visible location. Amanda would be concerned about the neighboring homes.
Amanda asks about Memorial Park as a location for work as well.
Landing page for artinvail.com has been launched.
Sculpture cleaning – June 6 & 7
Contracts with Gordon Heuther / Andy Dufford – approval from Council received.
Michael shares images of San Miguel de Allende with the board.
Molly shares images of a private sculpture garden in Virginia which was recently on tour. It included a
work by Jesus Moroles.
