In conjunction with our analysis of the prefabricated roof screens you are installing on the roof of
the above referenced building to screen mechanical equipment, we did make a cursory review
of the existing roof structure.
The existing roof structure, built in the late 70's, is open web steel joist and metal deck. Based
on the original construction drawings, it appears that the roof was designed for live loads of 70 —
80 pounds per square foot and a total load of around 100 pounds per square foot.
Assuming that the roof top mechanical equipment generates enough heat to melt snow on the
roof, the existing roof structure appears to have adequate capacity to support the new balasted
roof screens. However, snow that is allowed to accumulate on the roof, on the screens, on the
units or between screens and the units, may over load the existing roof structure. We would
advise the owner to periodically check the roof throughout the winter to see that snow is not
accumulating in this area.

existing structure, please do not hesitate to call.
