These stairs have been determined for egress capacity to be a minimum of 75" in width. 2003 IBC sec.-1009.2 3 Handrail Grasp ability and Continuity. Handrail grasability and continuity shall be in compliance to 2003 IBC sections, 1009.11.3 & 1009.11.4 4 Handrail Extensions. Handrail extensions are required to be a minimum of 12" beyond the bottom or top riser. 2003 IBC sec.-1009.11.5 5 Guards. All guards shall be a minimum of 42" measured from the walking surface to the top of the guard when used for fall protection greater than 30". This includes both sides of stairs. A combination Guard/I-Iandrail is not allowed. Handrails shall be mounted on the inside of the guard between 34"-38" in height 2003 IBC sec.-1012.1 & 1012.2. 6 Headroom Clearance. A minimum of 7'0" headroom clearance is required at the exit discharge at grade and measured to the bottom of the stairs/landings 7 Exit Illumination. The exit discharge/stairs shall be illuminated per section ]006.1 of the 2003 IBC. The exit discharge system for these stairs shall be maintained at all times.
