HomeMy WebLinkAboutBUSO20_Heating System Overview_01.06.202020 BURTON US OPEN HEATING SYSTEM OVERVIEW current 01.06.20 SUBJECT TO CHANGE Fan forced air units fueled by propane and free-standing patio heaters (propane) will be used at Golden Peak, Solaris, Lionshead and Dobson Ice Arena during the Burton US Open. GOLDEN PEAK Temporary tent structures at Golden Peak will be heated for the duration of the Burton US Open focusing on three zones: (1) Lower Sponsor Village located just below Chair 12 (2) Upper Village located at Slopestyle Course Finish/ Finish Corral adjacent to Race City (3) Start tents located at the top/start of the Slopestyle and Half Pipe Courses See map for zones and positioning of heating units/propane tanks. Dragonfli staff [daytime] and 5D Shield Security [overnight] will be in charge of monitoring these heaters. Additional protocols will be in place for 5D Shield Security Officers during the overnight shifts. PROPANE Professional installation of one (1) one thousand (1,000) gallon propane tank and one (1) five hundred (500) gallon propane tank will take place to effectively and efficiently fuel the heaters for the duration of the event. The thousand gallon (1,000) tank will be installed at the Upper Village/Slope Style finish, and the five hundred (500) gallon tank will be installed in the Lower Village. Each tank will require refueling every two – three days based on consumption rates that will be dictated by temperature. Professional installation of twelve (12) one hundred pound (100lb) cylinders will be used to effectively and efficiently fuel the heaters on mountain at top/start of the Slope Style and Half Pipe Courses. Guidelines [Per Fire Codes:] § Propane cylinders will not show signs of damage or rust. Damaged containers will be removed from the venue. § Propane cylinders will be secured from falling over or vehicle damage. Cylinders will be in racks or nested to prevent tipping. Ratchet or cinch straps with a minimum width of one inch will be used. Wire will be not as this is not acceptable as a means for securing cylinders. § Cylinders not in use willl be stowed securely in areas not accessible to the public. Caps or plugs will be in place while cylinders are awaiting use or pick up by supplier. § Dry chemical extinguishers will be placed in areas serviced by temporary heat. § Carbon monoxide alarms will be installed in all tents where temporary propane or natural gas supplied heaters are in use. § Extension cords and power strips will be in good condition and rated for outdoor use. Extension cords that are damaged, repaired with electrical tape or showing signs of wear will not be used. Cords not clearly identifiable as listed for outdoor use will not be used. Heaters/propane will be removed on Saturday, Feb 29. All heaters at Dobson will only run only during the hours of the event. SAFETY Safety is the number one importance. A dedicated staff member will be onsite throughout the event to insure the safety of equipment and that optimal working conditions exist. The overnight security team that will be onsite will be trained on the appropriate protocol should an emergency arise. Event Management has been trained and made aware of the emergency shut off valves as installed by the vendor. Event Management is aware of not only the location of these valves but also the functionality of all these devices. Vail Fire Department and Town of Vail Police will be identified IMMEDIATELY should there be any issues that require these valves to be shut off or any other incident that concerns public safety in the area.
