Administrative Items: Gross opened the meeting and introduced the 3 present event producers who submitted to the RFQ for the Thanksgiving Activation. Presentations: Brian Hall – Blue Creek Productions Laurie Asmussen – Eagle Valley Events Ren Productions – Angela Mueller 8:30a.m.: Review Request for Qualification Submittals, CSE, (60 minutes) • Blue Creek Productions – Brian Hall • So much to be thankful for in vail • Lodges need to throw skin in the game Eagle Valley Events – Laurie Asmussen • Asmussen: Guest initiatives from Vail Resorts at Council Meeting may be a lot of collaboration that may not cost as much as we anticipate. Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Dobson. Cross promote 5 star experiences. • Questions: • Wadey: talking to Joel about turkey trot or ugly sweater run or ugly sweater ski/run? CSE Minutes July 22, 2019 Page 1 of 3 Ren Productions – Angela Mueller • Mueller: Food based event. Cooking classes in existing kitchens or ballrooms • Holiday periods hit all demographics. Grandma to grandkids. • Vail Holiday Lights - seed the local businesses with some starter lights and encourage them to go all out. • Kris Kringle Market • Music Pop Ups - • Lowest Eddie Shipstead could go on a skate show would be $27,000 • Gobble Gobble Hike Board Discussion: 9:25 am • Kundolf: - Thank you for coming to vail sentiment is super important. • Wadey:we need to work with VR to dovetail the messaging between the town and mountain • Vlaar - Marketing budget needs to be included within the $100000 event budget • Marco: are we vetting the detailed proposal or just looking high level at producers • Gross: Both. Evaluating the vision of the producer and their qualifications to pull it off. • Gordon: This is digging the hole for the foundation its going to take 3-5 years to get this going • Rediker: Even selling thanksgiving to returning guests it a challenge at lodging properties. Not confident that these activations will bring numbers. Issaak Heartstone - Ice Castle - Families are not here for thanksgiving. They have their own traditions. These ideas wont bring people to town it will just enhance them. • Biszantz: Prior to thanksgiving needs to be geared to locals building community spirit only days that matter for out of town business is Friday Saturday Sunday. • Pete Osorio: investment in marketing to destination for the first time at thanksgiving traditionally a front range play. • Kundolf: Event needs to have the full $100K awarded. • Rediker: The most resources possible if we are going forward with this year . • Gordon: I agree with kim. • Valenti: Full $100k. • Biszantz and Rediker: wants support from Vail Resorts for marketing. • Davis: More money allocated to marketing and messaging around changing traditions - we should award one person and let them pick people to collaborate. • Valenti: Leaning towards Angela but her presentation was missing the snow connection. • Gordon: Angela because she spelled it out as a multi year plan but encourages her to work with the other producers for their expertise. • Davis: Agrees with Gordon. • Rediker: votes for Brian. Like the ideas for parade, experience with balloons and activating around families. Thought outside the box. • Wadey: Loves astronomy from Brian but is worried about marketing. Family Fun Fest has struggled • Biszantz- if we select REN would we get rid of Christmas Kris Kringle market? • Angela - We would move the Christmas one and only do one.
