This wall is a non-load bearing wall required to step the back yard and minimize the exposure of the adjacent soil nail wall to six feet in accordance with the Town of Vail regulations. The soil nail wall serves as a pressure relief wall and eliminates soil pressure on the concrete wall in question. The footing for the concrete wall is to be placed on the bedrock bench at the elevations noted on the foundation plan. The void between the back of the concrete wall and the front of the soil nail wall is to be filled with GeoFoam, a product consisting of polystyrene blocks. These blocks support their own weight and do not transmit loads to the concrete wall. The soil nail retaining wall was designed and constructed by GeoSolutions International, LLC. A design booklet for the soil nail wall has been prepared with calculations and has been submitted to the Town for review under a separate submittal. Peterman Asbestos Testing, Project Design, and Consulting INTRODUCTION: On May 7th, 2007 an inspection/survey was conducted and 11 bulk samples were collected from: The Residence 4852 Meadow Lane Vail., CO. The purpose of the inspection/survey was to locate and sample suspected Asbestos containing materials that might be present in the house that is planned for demolition. The inspection was made, and the samples were collected by John R. Peterman, an A.H.E.R.A. and State of Colorado Certified Asbestos Inspector. Great care was taken during the inspection and sampling to be as accurate as possible. It should be noted that minimal damage was done to the existing building structures during the inspection so there is no documentation for unseen conditions or stored items. All samples were analyzed by DCM Science Lab in Wheatridge, CO. This laboratory is deemed "Proficient" in the E.P.A.Quality Assurance (QA) program for the determination of asbestos in bulk materials, and is accredited by the American Hygiene Association (AHA). SAMPLING PROTOCOL: A random sampling scheme was used to sample the suspect materials that were discovered. The building is a three-story, A-frame type, with a wood shake shingle roof The soffits are exposed wood. The exterior walls are covered with wood siding, and brick. The interior walls are covered in sheetrock with a texture applied to it, and wood siding. The ceilings are covered in sheetrock with a spray-on texture, and sheetrock like the walls. The floors are covered with carpet, 12"x 12" floor tiles, and sheet vinyl flooring. The heating is provided by a fireplace, and a base board heating system. No suspect materials were visible on the heating system. NOTE: The 12"x12" floor tile was not sampled during this inspection at the request of the client. The light fixtures in the kitchen area should be disposed of as Asbestos waste. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS: Laboratory analysis of the bulk samples indicates that Asbestos was detected in all of the bulk samples collected. The sheet vinyl flooring #006 contains Asbestos that is in excess of the Regulatory Limit (Greater than 1% Asbestos). The sheet vinyl will need to be removed as per Colo. Reg. #8 prior to disturbance of this material. The remaining samples contain Asbestos that is less than the Regulatory Limit. The Asbestos content of the positive samples was verified by the required.
