The CLA is an experience for professionals looking to enhance their leadership capabilities and connect with like-minded professionals within Eagle County. CLA happens over 7 months; program lasts from 10:00-2:00 and it includes lunch. CLA courses include 1) Introduction to Inside First, 2) Core Values, 3) Trust, 4) Personal Integrity, 5) Ethics, 6) Communication, and 7) Speaking. Competencies learned during the program: >Sharpen your skills and strengthen your character >Gain increased insight into your core values >Build trust with those whom you depend on >Explore integrity by examining your beliefs and values system >Differentiate between ethics and morality >Discover the interactivity between listening and feedback 2. Please provide a detailed description of the event/program and its activities. Details of CLA courses: Module 1 - Introduction to Inside First OVERVIEW Sharpen your skills and strengthen your character through principles and leading practices from the inside first. Meaningful human achievement begins from within and leadership effectiveness is built on personal discovery and 'experiential' learning. We will be learning about the intent behind the Leadership Academy and will be covering an overview of the Inside First model. As your facilitator, I’ll lead you and your peers through exercises that will help explore leadership from your perspective. OUTCOMES Understanding of your leadership path and share it with your peers; Learn the principles of Inside First, a character based leadership model; Share your experiences and challenges of being a leadership role; Begin building strong relationships with your new peer network; PREWORK Please complete the following “LifeLine” Exercise. The instructions are simple: Choose a timeframe that you would like to focus on and mark the ticks on the horizontal line as different years. List all of your major accomplishments or moments that you consider “Highs” above the line. List the challenges or moments that you consider “Lows” below the line. Be prepared to share with your roundtable groups. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when filling out your Lifeline: A good Lifeline has a mixture of both personal and professional experiences. You don’t necessarily want to list every job that you have held. Think more about experiences that helped shape who you are today. Think about the first times that you noticed and acted in the role of a leader. Describe the major events or people that influenced you during this time. Module 2 - Core Values THE OVERVIEW Gain increased insight into your core values and discover how developing aspects of your character helps understand what drives your decision making and ethical behavior. We will learn how our Values are our blueprint for living and shape our leadership style. Building on our Lifelines, we will conduct a couple of exercises to recall our greatest accomplishments, our biggest challenges and define our Values. We’ll conclude our course with an open discussion on how our Values align, overlap, and sometimes conflict with organizational values in the workplace. THE OUTCOMES Understand the importance of Values in leading and engaging others; Discover and discuss your personal Values; Create alignment in your personal and professional life; Build a Values based team and organization. Module 3 - Trust THE OVERVIEW Trust is the belief that those on whom you depend will meet your expectations. The opposite of trust is suspicion. Trust is a state that we all want to be in. We will discuss Trust from a leadership perspective and how your conduct and your performance in your role affects it. We will then shift perspectives to the role of staff in developing Trust. During the Leadership Exchange, we'll discuss approaches employees can use to increase trust with their manager and how that strengthens our workforce. We will end our course with the Johari Window, a tool used to extend trust to others and learn about their perception of you. THE OUTCOMES Define Trust and UnTrust Learn about the Pillars of Trust and different types of trust Understand the link to Employee Engagement Build or increase your trust through Trust Accelerators Leverage the Johari Window Tool Module 4 - Personal Integrity THE OVERVIEW Personal integrity is the quality of being honest with yourself and others. Developing personal integrity requires examining your beliefs and value system, and taking conscious steps to behave in consistent ways. We will be discussing what is means to have Personal Integrity, how it shows up at work, and ways to create consistency in our thoughts and actions. THE OUTCOMES Learn how to work through integrity dilemmas; Understand personal and workplace integrity shows up in the public sector; Learn how to turn integrity from complex into simple; Learn concepts to create consistency in your choices. Module 5 - Ethics THE OVERVIEW Many people struggle with differentiating between ethics and morality. However, an organization formed without ethics is like a cabin built without nails. A culture of ethics is what links people and makes an organization immeasurably stronger. For this course, we'll start out with a self assessment to evaluate our awareness of ethics. We will continue with our roundtable discussion on how it shows up in both our personal and professional lives. To help prepare for the discussion, think about how Ethics affects you in the public sector. THE OUTCOMES Myths regarding Ethics; Ethics Defined; Moral Awareness; Linking Ethics to Organizational Culture; Tools to Increase Ethical Behavior. Module 6 - Communication OVERVIEW The interactivity of listening and feedback is central to effective communication. However, the practice of 'active attentiveness' takes listening to a deeper level of rapport building. Rapport building creates the foundation for communication. OUTCOMES Understand Communication as the “transfer” of information; Define the various roles we play when we communicate; Understand your Intent and how it affects your communication; Learn how to keep emotions under control during conflict; Discuss the difference between Hearing and Listening. Module 7 - Speaking All members have the ability to speak to the members and their guests. Each person will speak for 5-7 minutes on the following: - Personal growth that you have experienced in the 7 sessions. - What self-leadership have you experienced? - Any "nuggets" you have learned with your peers? - Any modules that were important to you and your organizational role. 3.
