CSE 5.5.21 Request for Additional Funding- Vail Jazz1 Vail Jazz Foundation CSE-Request for funding Tuesday April 20th, 2021 2 THE MISSION: The mission of Vail Jazz is to perpetuate jazz music through the presentation of jazz performances and educational programs. THE VISION: Vail Jazz will expand the audience for jazz and the performance opportunities for jazz musicians by presenting entertaining and educational live and virtual jazz performances, while providing jazz education to youth and assisting in the development of aspiring jazz musicians. OUR VALUES: We cherish the bonds of community between musicians, workshop alumni, staff and patrons. Our inclusive culture is a matter of distinction among other arts organizations, music festivals and teaching workshops. We take pride in bringing the rich, cultural heritage of jazz to the forefront of the community. The “7S” ModelRequest for Funding-Jazz at Solaris 3 •2020 Jazz in the Park, free concert series was incredibly well received by both local and visitor markets. Estimated revenue generated for the Town of Vail -$144K •Last summer the TOV paid a flat fee of $1,000 per week for the rental of the stage, Vail Jazz paid $700 per show for the sound system and operator •2021 grant request included free programming (Jazz in the park) that was contingent on the use of the Lower Bench venue as outlined from 2020 •The TOV has generously provided Vail Jazz with a grant of $75,000 for the presentation of this year‘s Festival which encompasses not only the eight free community concerts, but also eight shows at the Arrabelle and our signature event, the Labor Day Jazz Party, which encompasses 11 separate shows. •Part of the goal of planning the Festival this year has been to assist the TOV in increasing revenue, by programming concerts on Sunday evenings which encourages a longer visitor stay The “7S” ModelRequest fo Funding-Jazz at Solaris •Solaris Plaza has agreed to host our free community programming, in the heart of Vail on Sunday evenings-driving more potential for revenue to the local merchants. •Anticipated attendance 500+, 8 shows July 11th-August 22nd •The unique nature of the venue requires a dramatic increase in costs due to the fact that a portable stage will have to be brought to the venue for each show, sound equipment reinstalled each week and all equipment removed each week •$3,560 per show to provide a portable stage, sound system and sound engineer for each of our proposed eight shows at Solaris this summer –an additional expense to Vail Jazz in the amount of $28,480 for the series •For all of the foregoing reasons, we are requesting an additional $10,000 of funding to support this concert series. 4 The “7S” ModelRequest fo Funding-Jazz at Solaris 5 •Questions?
