122 E. Meadow Dr. (Village Center Building D : "Vail Core")

In addition, a building permit application form with preliminary informatior\ and two sets of the
engineer's drawings are enclosed for the plan check process.
Here is a description of the work we'd like permission for under the additional GRFA application. The
unit now has 631 sq. ft. on its main level, and 68 sq. ft. in a loft. We proposed to remove the loft, and
replace it with a loft of 162 sq. ft., resulting in a net increase of 94 sq. ft. In addition, we plan to renovate
the kitchen and rest of the main level. We have provided a code-complying stair to the new loft and an
egress roof window for exiting purposes, as discussed with Dan on the phone. We are not proposing
any exterior work except this skylight (flush with the roof surface). The balcony work indicated on the
plans has been abandoned.
The building has had a TCO since 1975, as confirmed with the planning staff, but we aren't sending a
copy of it since we can't find it in the town's huge Village Center file.

a building permit in June, 1994 was therefore appropriately denied.
A.ft,er our meeling on Sept-ember 29, 1994 I spoke to Gary Murrain who indicated th aL the addition will
not require a slrylight as long as the loft, to be improved is open to the floor bslow. Under this
circur::,rtgnce the eddiuon wculd be considered a mezzrrnine and not ar: aCditional story to the
burkling. It would receive light and ventilation from the floor below.
As n concession to the life safeW issue, Gary believes that as long as the add.rhon includes B legitimate
code complying stoirway, ralher than the prcviously erjgting ship's ladder, that will alloviate the need
for the skylight for access. Ttre stairway will provide safer, quicker arrd better sccess to the floor
below.
Inasmuch as this addition does not involvo an exterior alteration or the placement ofa skylight, there
is no obligation to have the signature of ths owner on the applicBtion for the building permit.
While it is unfortunate chat the pnor approval has erpired, we sre hopeful that the concession in
regard to the akylight will creat€ some burden to Dr. Flacke.

PUBLIC WORKS PERMIT PROCESS
How it-relates to Builcling permits:
1) Fillout our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication.lf yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "public way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either Community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (locate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate.
3) A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all traffic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
construction, staging, etc..). This plan will expire on oct. 1sth. and will need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a siteplan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and lrrigation crew. The
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 49 hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approveor disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any that may
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please
allow up to one week to process.
7) As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to community
Development allowing the "Building Permit'to be released. Please do not confuse
the "Public Way Permit" with a "Building Permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:
* The above process is for work in a public way only.* Public Way Permits are valid only until November 1Sth.* A new Public way Permit is required each year if work is not complete.
