Dear Bruce,
As requested, following is the eunnary
uade at the subject project.of our job observations
lle were first contacted in late afternoon on Februar! 7, 1986 toreview the potential structural problens caused by cutting of an8"x8" opening thru the second floor spandrel beam on the west
side of colunn B-10. Based on our observations' we concluded that
the shear capacity of this bealn had been substantially reduced
and reconnended innediate installation of tenporary shoring.
The recomnended teuporary shoring was installed that evening: in a
sat isfactory nanner.
After this, we proceeded with the design of perrnanent
reinforcement of the spandrel bean. SK-l, showing theinstallation of a steel colunn to transfer the spandrel beanreaction to the inverted tee-bean below, t{as iseued on February13, 1986. tbe design approach of the bean reinforcernent and howto transfer the loads down to the existing footing was diecussedwith Mr. Peter Monroe of Richard lfeingardt Consultants, Inc. at aneeting in their office on February 12, 1986.
The installation of the steel colunn as shown on SK-l was made inthe afternoon of February 14, 1986. We Here present thru the
entire tine of colunn installation. Installation was as specified
on SK-l except for the 8r'wide discontinuity of the toPPing slab
at outside face of First Floor bean. At this location a 6"x2t'xl'
steel plate was placed directly on top of the bearn to distributethe load frou the I" diameter load transfer bolts.

were sent to Richard Weingardt Consultants, Inc. on February 20,
1986 for tbeir review and comnent. Verbal concurrence with thedesign details shown on St(-l and SK-2 was received fron Peter
Monroe on February 27, 1986.
Ioetallation of the colunn reinforcement as shown on SK-2 wasstarted on February 27, 1986 and finished late afternoon on
Pebruary 28, 1986. During these two days we nade several gite
visits to observe the fabrication and installation of the colunn
reinforcernent. Our observations indicated that this reinforcenent
was installed as specified.
At the tine of writing this J.etter, the specified 2-hour fireprotection of the colunn reinforcenent at the garage level hasnot been iastalled. l'i e reconnend that this be conpleted aa aoon
as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING ALL SUBMISSIONS TO THE DRB:
1. In addition to meeting submittal requirements, the applicant must stake the site
to indicate property lines and bu'i lding corners. Trees that wjll be removed
should also be marked. This work must be completed before the DRB v'i sits the
si te.
2. The review process for NE}J BUILDINGS wjll normal 1y'i nvolve two separate meet'ings
of the Design Review Board, so plan on at least two meetings for their approval.
3. People who fail to appear before the Design Review Board at their scheduled
meeting and who have not asked for a postponement will be required to be
republ i shed.
4. The following items no longer have to be presented to the Design-Review Board.
They, howevei, have to be firesented to the Zoning Administrator for approval:
a. 14indows, skylights and sjmilar exterior changes that do not alter the
existing plane of the building; and
b. Building additions that are not viewed from any other lot or public space'
which hive had letters submitted from adjoining property owners approving
the addition; and/or approval from the agent for, or manager of a condominium
association.
5. You may be required to conduct Natural Hazard Studies on your property. You should
check w'i th a Town Planner before proceeding.
