Overall Event Highlights & Successes
3
•List the top 4-6 successes you want to share with the CSE (consider this a snapshot for
your recap).
•Hosted 64 teams (including local Vail teams) over three weekends of the
tournament and had to turn away some teams, due to lack of available ice time.
•Successfully partnered with 7 Vail properties to provide lodging for teams. We
were able to add a few new properties to our offerings (LionsSquare Lodge, Vail
International and Four Seasons).
•We booked 1,126 nights between the properties which is almost DOUBLE the
number of rooms from the 2019 event.

•What meaures did you take to encourage attendees to book lodging in the Town of
Vail?
Hockey tournaments usually have a “stay to play” requirement, meaning that you have to
stay at contracted lodging to participate. We included the following clause in our
tournament rules:
”All teams traveling from out of state, or a distance greater than 60 miles, are required to
stay in one of the hotel properties provided by the Vail Mountaineer Hockey Club. Any team
that fails to follow this rule will either be suspended from the tournament or face a $500
fine. Using an independent booking site (example: hotels.com) is not allowed. Teams are
required to reserve their rooms through the contact provided by the Vail Mountaineer
Hockey Club for each property."
Estimated Return on Investment (ROI) & Attendee Expenditures

•What did your event do to encourage spending in Vail?
In addition to only offering lodging in Vail, we encourage spending through our
scheduling of games. Teams typically play 2 games Friday, 2 games Saturday and teams
who advance play games on Sunday. There is at least 3 hours of times between games
where teams will typically have a team meal and visit the Town of Vail. Additionally,
hockey parents are always visiting the closest coffee shop to get a hot beverage.
Event Strengths & Weaknesses
9
•How did the event exceed expectations?
•The number of room stays in Vail was nearly DOUBLE what we had in
2019.
•The number of teams interested in our event and the positive
feedback from attendees.
•What are areas for event improvement?
•Game scheduling is challenging and with limited ice availability, some
attendees were not happy with early and late games.
•How did this year’s event compare to previous years?
•The number of attendees and games was very similar to years prior
to 2020.
Vail Brand Compatibility
10
•How did the event support the Vail Brand?
We mentioned the Town of Vail as our premier sponsor in all tournament
communication and during the awards ceremony for each division.
* We used Vail branding and included the Town of Vail logo in promotional
materials and in email communication to teams.
Brand Positioning:
•Town of Vail: The Premier International Mountain Resort Community
•Vail Mountain: Like nothing on earth
Community Contribution
11
•How did the event impact Vail’s sense of community?
Hockey is a community in and of itself. We are hockey families who travel
together to support one another as teammates, coaches and spectators.
Tournaments bring teams together and offer the opportunity to bond on and
off the ice. Additionally, many players play on select teams and get the
opportunity to see players from other associations during the tournament.
The Town of Vail offers unique opportunities for teams to bond.
Topline Marketing Efforts
12
•Include overview of top 3 successful marketing tactics or executions
This event is not marketed due to its popularity. We have to turn away
teams each year due to ice limitations.
•Please attach complete marketing plan to end of presentation.
Potential for Growth & Sponsorships/Media Exposure
13
•How do you see the event evolving or growing next year?
•The event will continue in 2022 where we will continue to offer tournament play over
a minimum of three weekends in November. Our goal is to offer a 4th weekend of
tournament play in September or October for the U18/High School division. Due to
scheduling conflicts, we had to cancel this division in 2021.
•We continue to be limited in growth potential by the amount of ice time available.
When we get another sheet of ice, we will be able to accept more teams and
therefore host more people in the Town of Vail.
•What sponsors do you plan to target next year? (Including existing and potential
sponsors)
•We will continue to partner with a variety of lodging partners for the
2022 event.
Sustainability Efforts
14
•What measures were taken at your event/program to support the
environmentally-friendly goals of the Town of Vail?
•Teams using reusable water bottles and filling them at the fountain.
•Reuse the banners to advertise the event.
•What waste reduction methods were used during your event/program?
•Recycling of materials
•How could you improve on sustainability efforts for next year’s event?
The Town of Vail is committed to the stewardship and protection of our unique mountain environment. In consideration of both
our local and global impacts and opportunities, our environmental vision is to demonstrate and promote: renewable energy,
resource efficiency, ecosystem protection, and community awareness and education.
