Environmental Consultation/Limited Asbestos Building Inspection at the aforementioned property.
Locat, state and4/or federal regulations, including but not limited to the Air Quality Control Division (AQCC) Regutation S,
OSHA 1926.1101, and EPA (NESHAP) 40 CFR Part 61 may require a compr�hensive asbestos inspection prior to a

Materials that contain <=1.0% Asbestos are not considered Asbestos Containing Materials by NESHAPS or EPA but may
still be covered by OSHA. OSHA regulations may apply during potential disturbance activities.
Although a material may have been deterniined to contain <=1.0% Asbestos, or during a demolition, if the composition of
drywalUoint compound (when the joint compound does not cover the entire surface) has been determined to contain r-1.0%
Asbestos, this document serves as a Hazard Communication and should be followed during an activity such as a renovation
or demolition, to ensure that an exposure does not occut. 1fie Maximum Allowable Asbestos Level (MAAL) may not be
exceeded at `any' time in accordance with local, state, and/or federal regulations, including but not limited to AQCC
Regulation 8(State), 29 CFR 1926.1101 (OSHA), 40 CFR Part 61 EPA (NESHAP), and 40 CFR 763 EPA (AHERA).

Suspect materials which were not visible/accessible at the time of the inspection were:
1. `Any' confirmed or suspect ACM inside or outside of the cwrent work area(s) which is not within the Summary of
Work which at this time is not directly aft'ected by the renovation/demolition.
2. During a normal inspection, and more specifically when non-destructive sampling techniques are employed, it is not
within the scope of the inspection to remove surface materials to inspect the structures and/or materials wluch may be
under the surface, i.e., within or under concealed areas such as under carpet, under sub-floors, within chases, walls,
crawlspaces, tunnels, etc., to remove suspect Asbestos Containing Material(s), to move and/or sample electrical wiring
which has not been'l�ked out', etc. All said areas are to be assumed as containing >1.0% Asbestos, until such a time
that these areas are made accessible, and/or rendered safe so that sampling can be performed.
3. HERRONm recommends extreme caution during a renovation or demolition of these areas in the event that an area
which was not suspect, visible, accessible and/or specified during the inspection, is discovered to contain or is suspected
of containing an Asbestos Containing Material (AC11�. Under local, state and/or federal regulations, should such an

event occur, the Client and or Contractor is required to cease operations which may effect this (these) material(s) until an
inspection is concluded and a determination is made by an AHERA and State Certified Asbestos Building Inspector.
4. It is expressly advised that although this is a Limited Asbestos Building Inspection, it is a limited inspection which is
designed to indicate the presence of Asbestos Containing Materials in the Building(s), and under normal the guidelines
defined, specific samples and locations have been instructed and authorized by the Client. Although some materials may
indicate that Asbestos is not present in this report, and under the protocol of limited sampling whereas not `all' suspect
materials were sampled, under local, state and/or federal regulations, including but not limited to AQCC Regulation 8
and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101, a certain protocol for sampling, number of samples obtained, and assessment is required.
5. Disturbance of these areas could create a potential health hazard.

3. In addition to the changes driven by structural changes are the following.

1. A-0.1 CONSTRUCTION NOTES Due to the 2" . Exception described in Section
NOTE NO. 5 R311.4.3 on Page 51 of the IRC, the distance
from the top of the threshold to the landing
can exceed 1-1/2". It can be as much as
7-3/4" if the door does not swing over the
landing. It should be noted that the landing
should be held as high as possible to minimize
the impact on ceiling height in the space
below, but at least 4" would be desirable to
provide a better waterproofing condition at the
sill of the ent door.
2. A2.5 SECOND FLOOR PLAN Per Town Of Vail Permit Plan Review
comments and Sections R302.1 and R302.2
of the IRC, the west wall of the garage of Unit
B needs to be a 1-Hr. fire rated assembly. The
following is required.
a. The existing exterior wood siding is to
be removed and 5/8" Type "X" exterior
gyp sheathing should be applied to the
face of the wall sheathing.
b. The wood siding will be reinstalled over
the gyp. sheathing.
c. At the interior side of the west wall, 5/8"
Type "X" drywall will be installed over
the existing drywall and will extend from
the top of foundation to the underside of
the joists.
d. The existing window in the west wall can
remain if it is not replaced with a new
window.
3. A2.4 FIRST FLOOR PLAN Per Town Of Vail Permit Plan Review

Redwine Engineers received the soils report for the 799B Potato Patch Dnve addition from
LKP Engineering on October 27, 2004. A thorough review of the foundation design was made
using the new soils information obtained from this report. This review included all foundation
walls, strip footings, slab-on-grade and spread footings. The enclosed sketches reflect the
required changes in the structural drawings due to the new information.

At your request, on October �$, 2I, and 25, 2004, we visitcd the excavation sitc at 7998,
Potato Patch Drave, Veil, Eaglc Coutaty, Coiorado. 'The puzpose of our site visits, was to observe
the soils exposed in che foundation rxcavation for the proposed addition, and pravidc
recommendatians for th� �oundation design. Tbis rcport is limited to the soil co�ditions obsetved
and tcsted in ihe fou�asian excavation.
The cncavation fa the proposed addition was on the north sido of the existing resid�nce.
�e aepth of the excavetio�n varied from sbout 6 feet near t6e northwcst comer o�the existing
garagc to about 10 fcct near the naiddlc north, and to about 4 feet Aear the nortb;east carncr af t�e
existing residence. Thc soil cxposed in t�c foundatio� t,��uvation vatied. On ttu wets onc third
of the excavation� iun front of thc existing garage, there was a lot of fiU and t�psnil, The fill aad
copSOil extcnded below the bottom of the cxisting, footing elevazian. Witlain the proposEd new
footing area the fil] and tapaoil wsre ove�excavatta iiowt� tv tk�e r�ddis�-bt+own, sitty ta sitty-
clayey sand. The soit expvsed in the deepe�r �xcavation, at t'he bottom of footing of the main part
of the residexrce, tonsiste�d of fr,na�er, gr�vetty sa�nd. We sampted the soii in the e�cavation at
ra»dom int�rvals. T�ae aoil sa�les were tcsted in owr laboratory for natural moistute contrnt,
naturdt dry dez�sity, and swelI-con�sotidation. T[�e test results are appended w this report.
The proposed addiNon shoeeld be designed fvr a ntaximum allowable soil bearing
presseu�e of 100U psf.
We recommend �ainimum width o�f 16 inches for t�,e contiauous �'ootings an� 2 fcet for
the isolated �'oo;ing pads, Continuous foundarion walis siwuld be reinforced top and bottom to
span an unsuppo�ted length af et leasi I O feet.
We tecommend a minimum of 48 inches o£backfill cover for frost protect�on of tiu
footing suk�soil�. We a1w r,ecommer�ded tb,st the bottoux of the excavation be compacted to
detect and zexnove soft spots. Soft spots were not reportul.
Focmdation walls retainin�g earth and retaxning structuzes that arc latexally supported
should bc designed to resist an equivalrnt fluid density of 60 pcf for w•`at-r�si" eond;uo�.
I-��ezailY unrah�ained structurss, retaining the on.site eaRh, should be desigs�t,td to resist an
equivalent fluid d�nsity of 4Q pef for the "active" case.
